Day 1
Singapore, Singapore

Depart from Singapore and settle into your private cabin as the train rolls through the southern Malaysian countryside.

Afternoon tea is served on board, then spend time relaxing or exploring the train.

Savour an aperitif accompanied by live piano music in the Bar Car before your first dinner on board.

Day 2
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Enjoy breakfast in your cabin before arriving at the impressive Mughal-style Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. Explore Malaysia’s lively capital with a choice of tour:

- Head out for a morning in nature just outside of the city and spend the morning in a bucolic setting between a rainforest reserve and a pristine golf course.

- Visit Independence Square, Jamek Mosque, and the Chinese temple of Sin Sze Si Ya.

- Join the cycle tour of hidden Kuala Lumpur, heading to historic gems, including Kampong Bharu and the oldest and busiest wet markets.

- If you wish to stay on board, you can enjoy a late breakfast and a presentation of local exotic fruits and cocktail class.

Return to the train for lunch and an afternoon at leisure. As evening descends, a sumptuous dinner is served as your journey continues to Penang Island.

Day 3
Penang, Malaysia
None Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Breakfast is served in your cabin before the day’s adventures begin. Alight from the train and transfer to Butterworth for your choice of tour.

‘Georgetown Living Heritage Hunt’ tracks down some of the vibrant city’s lesser known crafts. ‘Georgetown’s Colonial Legacy’ explores the history and grandeur of 19th-century Penang. ‘Taste of Penang’ unearths the region’s rich culinary heritage.

Rejoin the train and find an array of local entertainment. Have your fortune told by an astrologer, sit in on a fascinating perfume presentation, and be enraptured by the gentle melody of a Thai musician.

This evening begins with a traditional Thai dance followed by a celebratory dinner. Countdown to the New Year with a DJ and sensational fireworks.

Day 4
Bangkok , Thailand

Start the first day of the New Year with a relaxing morning on board as the train travels to Bangkok.

The Orient Express- All that you can imagine it is.

Our travel on the Orient Express earlier this year was its initial run from Stockholm to Copenhagen, WE had previously ridden its classic run from Paris to Venice in previous years. The carriages are classics, the service impeccable, the food wonderful. If you are wondering if its just like its depicted in the movies it is !

Great Tour

Our tour from Lima to Cusco to Machu Picchu and back was very good.  Had a wonderful guide, Luis (Dias I think).  Very informative and passionate about his topic.  Arrangements--hotels and train--were very good.  A complaint would be that hotel rooms assigned to us were with 2 beds rather than a double.  We had to upgrade to get that.  We prefer to travel as the couple we are and were never asked in advance about our preference for such arrangements.  (And I'm not aware of any Virtuoso Amenities)

Train delayed for two hours but we were invited to a nice platform restaurant were a meal & beverages were provided. Beverages on board well overpriced considering the cost of the journey

Belmond Grand Hibernian

We had a lovely time on the Belmond Grand Hibernian. The staff was excellent and the food was incredible. It was a low-stress way to see Ireland (no driving) and the spots selected for each day trip were great. For future travelers I would recommend: if you're on the youngish side of things (we are in our early 40s), I'd bring friends -- the train is pretty much quiet by 10pm after dinner, so we really enjoyed have friends with us to play cards and talk in the bar car at the end of the evening. Also, the trip isn't one continuous loop around Ireland - you do some back tracking each day - it's fine but doesn't give you the feeling of seeing "new" countryside with each leg of the journey.
