Your private guide will meet you at your Loire Valley hotel you will visit one of the most beautiful regions in France.
You will start the day with a visit to the Chateau & Gardens of Villandry. Villandry was the last chateau built during the Renaissance Period. Today it is famous around the world for its spectacular French terraced gardens – unique for its diversity and originality. You will enjoy the Love Garden, Kitchen Garden, Aromatic and Medicine Plant Garden, Water Garden and the new Sun Garden.
Next, you will discover Chinon. Chinon is an important shrine in the Joan of Arc era. It was here in 1429 that the saint first recognized the disguised Charles VII and persuaded him to give her an army to drive the English out of France. The town’s center is like a medieval film set, lined with 15th and 16th century houses, and once enclosed by the castle walls, it represents a cross-section of Chinonais history. The stone mansion that houses the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire is where, in 1199, Richard the Lion Heart is said to have died.
Alternate Chateau Option: Azay le Rideau
The Château of Azay-le-Rideau is situated in the Centre Val de Loire region. It was built on an island on the River Indre by a wealthy financier, Gilles Berthelot, during the reign of François I. It is the most beguiling and feminine of Loire Châteaux, created in the early 16th century by Philippa Lesbahy, wife of François I’s corrupt finance minister. Superficially Gothic, it clearly shows the transition to the Renaissance. Azay was a pleasure palace, lived in during fine weather and deserted in winter. Please note: The castle of Azay-le-Rideau, is currently the scene of monumental restoration, where stonemasons, carpenters and roofers combine their talents to restore this jewel of the Loire Valley to its full glory. During this period, the castle is open daily and invites you to come and enjoy this unusual visit
