Day 1
Cochin, India
Taj Malabar Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We wing our way to Cochin this morning. Cochin, now known as Kochi, is located in the Southern India State of Kerala, and boasts of a stunning location between the Arabian Sea and the backwaters. Spread across coconut covered islands and headlands, its unique history of foreign influence is reflected in a variety of architectural styles. On a stroll down its lanes one may stumble across a synagogue, a Portuguese palace, a European church, or a village green that seems to have been transported untouched from the English countryside.
Day 2
Vembanad Lake
Mv Vrinda Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The picturesque backwaters of Kerala are one of India's most enchanting holiday destinations - and The Oberoi Motor Vessel Vrinda, is the perfect way to experience it. The Oberoi Motor Vessel Vrinda takes you on a three-night journey through Kerala, the tranquil waterways of 'God's own country.' Discover its rich heritage and fascinating backwaters. On the boat, you can Interact with the local fisherman as they explain the life cycle of "karimeen" also called "pearl spot - a fish commonly found in Kerala's backwaters. Next, step into the kitchen for a cooking demonstration as your chef whips up karimeen pollichattu (pearl spot cooked in banana leaf) with the day's catch. Soak in the beautiful scenery and the local sights as the cruiser meanders through a series of picturesque canals and lakes. Once all guests are on board, the Vrinda will sail along the main waterway on Vembanad Lake and enter the Alleppey canal. If you like, indulge in a spot of fishing at the tail end of the boat whe
Day 3
Vembanad Lake
Mv Vrinda Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Sailing through scenic backwaters, observe life along these "water highways" while passing through one of the few areas in the world where farming is done below sea level. Next, you will be transferred to a traditional rice boat to navigate through the narrower sections of the backwaters. For the next few hours, a guide will accompany you as you observe and experience a way of life unique to this region. This section of the cruise includes a visit to the half-statue of Lord Buddha at Karumadi. Damaged, weatherbeaten and almost invisible within a pink concrete stupa, it is believed to be the oldest image of the Buddha in Kerala. Later in the day, return to the Vrinda where lunch will be served as the boat passes through picturesque stretches of the backwaters on the way back to Alleppey. This evening, the Vrinda will return to Vembanad Lake, where you will enjoy Vrinda Vadiyam, a musical fusion of classical instruments.
Day 4
Vembanad Lake
Mv Vrinda Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning, the boat will anchor near Chambakulam where you will proceed onto a rice boat once again for a pre-lunch sightseeing excursion. Visit St. Mary's Church, established by St. Thomas in 1721 and Sree Bhagavathy Kshetram - a 100-year old Hindu temple to Mother Goddess - at Nedumudy. Later return to the vessel, where lunch and a cooking demonstration of Kerala cuisine has been arranged. Later this evening, enjoy a Mohiniattam recital on board the boat. This classical dance form, distinctive to Kerala, is also called the 'Dance of the Enchantress'. Dancers attired in beautiful traditional costumes perform with slow, graceful movements and highly emotive expressions. Note: The order of the day may vary depending on day guests embark.
Day 5
Cochin to Mumbai
N/a Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
All too soon, your time in this idyllic paradise comes to an end. After breakfast on board, disembark at the pier and proceed to Cochin airport for your flight to Mumbai. Upon arrival, proceed to a hotel near the airport where a room has been reserved for you until departure. Later tonight, your journey to this mystical land comes to an end as you proceed to the International Airport for your flight home.

We chose carefully to find the best African Tour company that we believed would provide the best, stand behind its product and not offer lame excuses. Micato proved its excellence in every way, including acknowledging an error and standing behind its well earned reputation to make it right. Not all would do that, as we all know from experience. M did a remarkable job and worth the money.. Best personnel and logistics around. So.......the best, and proud to tell the world.

Tailor made safari

Micto has a reputation for extraordinary service which is well deserved. We chose the Grand Safari and secretly thought that it really wouldn't fully justify the name or the price but were pleasantly proved wrong. We were greeted by Jane and Felix Pinto, company founders at the start and end of the trip who made us feel a part of their family. Every effort was made to make the experience comfortable, luxurious and magical and all of our needs were anticipated. They even showed up with a birthday gift for me when I had forgotten all about the date! The guides are charming and knowledgable about animals, history, culture, politics - you name it. The drivers were magicians at anticipating animal behavior and getting us to just the right spot to see just the right animals. We've since met other Micto travelers whom we were pleased to note have had similar experiences. Don't go to Africa with anyone but Micato.

Everything from the moment we were picked up in Capetown, to the end of our trip in Nairobi was top rate. The guides and drivers were exceptional, the hotels were fabulous. We really felt spoiled by the way we were treated. The only downside had to do with sending our bags home that we weren't going to use on the 18 day safari - one of the five bags never made it out of South Africa. DHL has no idea what happened to it.

We recently completed our Micato Safari. We spent 13 days in Kenya and Tanzania. In short, the trip was perfect. Starting with our Nairobi Airport greeting by Micato (Salma). She raced us through customs where we were picked up in a Micato Land Cruiser and delivered to our hotel where we were met by Micato Concierge Virginia. She seamlessly checked us into our Nairobi hotel. Then we met Phillip, our Safari Guide. Phillip was top notch and made sure we had a fantastic time including a delicious lunch at the home of the Pintos (founders and owners of Micato). there is an incredible amount of detail that goes into the planning and execution of a African Safari. Phillip made it look easy (although we know he was working hard to make our experience perfect). If we decide to go back to Africa (or visit India), there is only one Safari company we'd use and that's Micato.
