Micato Safaris

En Route To Arrive home

Valid for Departures Now Through: 31 Mar 2019

Day 1
En Route
N/a None
Begin your adventure as you wing to South Africa.
Day 2

The Saxon Hotel Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
A Micato Safaris representative will greet you upon arrival in Johannesburg and take you to the Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa, where a room has been reserved for you. Nestled in the exclusive Sandhurst suburb of Sandton, the Saxon Hotel makes a world class statement of ethnic African elegance, combined with personalized attention to detail. The Saxon has witnessed history within its walls as it became home to Nelson Mandela after he was released from prison. It was during this time that South Africa's former president used the serene setting of the hotel to edit his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom. Tonight, dinner will be served in the private home of your Micato hosts-a taste of the personal attention you will enjoy over the coming days.
Day 3
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Kadizora Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, you will fly from the urban hub of Johannesburg to Maun, Botswana and into one of the world's most remote wildlife arenas, the Okavango Delta. One of the most distinctive ecosystems anywhere on earth, desert meets delta in the Okavango where southern Africa's third largest waterway fans out into tributaries and swamps and ultimately, the Kalahari. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game excursion at the intimate Kadizora Camp, your home for the next two nights. Secluded and beautifully shaded by a regal stand of trees, Kadizora Camp yields breathtaking views of the Okavango Delta from each of its 10 well-designed tents.
Day 4
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Kadizora Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today you are going to see Africa from a new direction-from above. A hot air balloon safari is the ultimate safari experience! Watch as a stunning panorama unfolds below you and the balloon's basket becomes your lookout post for a bird's-eye view of the beauty of Botswana. After lunch and some time to relax back at camp, enjoy another game excursion. In these postcard-perfect surroundings, you will continue exploration of the Okavango's flora and fauna-by foot, mokoro (dug-out canoe), motorboat, or open four-by-four vehicle. Breathtaking moments are plentiful here in one of Botswana's most treasured areas, such as watching crocodiles sunning themselves by the water or a pride of lions lounging in the shade of a baobab.
Day 5
Chobe National Park, Botswana
Gomoti Plains Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After an early morning game excursion followed by brunch, you will take a short flight to Gomoti Plains Camp in the southeastern region of the Okavango Delta. Resting pacifically along the banks of the lush Gomoti River, Gomoti Plains Camp is comprised of 10 tents, set on raised wooden decks and decorated to mirror the water and land themes that define the exquisite and heart-liftingly rare Okavango. Because of Gomoti's untroubled remoteness, much wildlife filming and research has been done here of lions, elephants, buffalo, and especially of the area's large coterie of African wild dogs, sometimes called painted wolves.
Day 6
Chobe National Park, Botswana
Gomoti Plains Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
On morning and afternoon game excursions explore the area in depth. The wildlife in the area is prolific, and chances are good you will see herds of elephant and come within close viewing range of impala, giraffe, buffalo and zebra. A morning walking safari will permit you to commune with the wilderness in ways you might miss during afternoon game drives, during which the great herds, big cats and other plains game might make appearances. And evening game drives provide the novel thrill of spying elusive nocturnal creatures via your guide's skillfully-trained spotlight. Another option to consider is exploring the flood plains and islands near camp in a mokoro, piloted along fig-tree-lined channels by a seasoned poler.
Day 7
Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana
Machaba Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning, enjoy a final game excursion and brunch at Gomoti Plains Camp before your quick flight to Moremi Game Reserve. You will arrive camp in time to settle in before departing on your first game drive in the Moremi. Botswana is roughly the size of France, and the Moremi is situated in the country's northern central flood plains. The serene open waters and papyrus-bordered channels of the Okavango support a vast array of wildlife including elephant, lion, buffalo, wild dog, cheetah, leopard, giraffe, kudu, wildebeest, and hippo. Your base for adventure here is the Machaba Camp. This luxurious camp will make you feel pampered amidst the wild surroundings. The location is ideal for elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and cheetah sightings-and the camp blends so well with the surrounding bushveld, it's not uncommon to see some of them from your tented veranda.
Day 8
Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana
Machaba Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Game viewing opportunities abound in the area around the Khwai River and no experience is more diverse and jaw-dropping than at the Moremi Game Reserve. Here you are close to the core of timeless Africa; in the centre of a world that is immortally wild. Whether driving along a roaming zebra herd or watching baboons play along the riverbank, nearly every turn of the head seems to offer a spectacular menagerie of exotic animals. Returning to camp, lounge by the pool and perhaps glimpse a pod of hippo playing in the river. At night lie under a star-speckled sky, basking in the calming cacophony of the African night.
Day 9
Victoria Falls, Zambia
Royal Livingstone Hotel Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today after a final game excursion and brunch you will be whisked away by flight to Livingstone, Zambia, just north of Victoria Falls, via Kasane. On arrival you will be met and escorted to The Royal Livingstone Hotel, which stretches luxuriously along the banks of the Zambezi River. Later this afternoon you will imagine you are on the African Queen, as your "Sundowner" cruise drifts lazily along the Zambezi River, and you sip wine and watch for crocodiles, hippos, and perhaps even an elephant, as you float past.
Day 10
Victoria Falls, Zambia
Royal Livingstone Hotel Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning, walk the length of the Falls, an awe-inspiring experience. A permanent mist from the spray of the constantly crashing waters has created a micro-climate all its own, and a rainforest grows above the chasm and the river. You will also enjoy a short, scenic flight over the Falls with breathtaking views. The wide basalt cliff, over which the Falls thunder, transforms the Zambezi from a wide placid river to a ferocious torrent cutting through a series of dramatic gorges. Facing the Falls is another sheer wall of basalt, rising to the same height and capped by mist-soaked rainforest. Enjoy some free time before tonight's dinner.
Day 11

N/a None
Today you will have an early morning transfer to the airport to board your flight to Johannesburg, from where you will connect with your international flight arriving home the next day.
Day 12

N/a None

We chose carefully to find the best African Tour company that we believed would provide the best, stand behind its product and not offer lame excuses. Micato proved its excellence in every way, including acknowledging an error and standing behind its well earned reputation to make it right. Not all would do that, as we all know from experience. M did a remarkable job and worth the money.. Best personnel and logistics around. So.......the best, and proud to tell the world.

Tailor made safari

Micto has a reputation for extraordinary service which is well deserved. We chose the Grand Safari and secretly thought that it really wouldn't fully justify the name or the price but were pleasantly proved wrong. We were greeted by Jane and Felix Pinto, company founders at the start and end of the trip who made us feel a part of their family. Every effort was made to make the experience comfortable, luxurious and magical and all of our needs were anticipated. They even showed up with a birthday gift for me when I had forgotten all about the date! The guides are charming and knowledgable about animals, history, culture, politics - you name it. The drivers were magicians at anticipating animal behavior and getting us to just the right spot to see just the right animals. We've since met other Micto travelers whom we were pleased to note have had similar experiences. Don't go to Africa with anyone but Micato.

Everything from the moment we were picked up in Capetown, to the end of our trip in Nairobi was top rate. The guides and drivers were exceptional, the hotels were fabulous. We really felt spoiled by the way we were treated. The only downside had to do with sending our bags home that we weren't going to use on the 18 day safari - one of the five bags never made it out of South Africa. DHL has no idea what happened to it.

We recently completed our Micato Safari. We spent 13 days in Kenya and Tanzania. In short, the trip was perfect. Starting with our Nairobi Airport greeting by Micato (Salma). She raced us through customs where we were picked up in a Micato Land Cruiser and delivered to our hotel where we were met by Micato Concierge Virginia. She seamlessly checked us into our Nairobi hotel. Then we met Phillip, our Safari Guide. Phillip was top notch and made sure we had a fantastic time including a delicious lunch at the home of the Pintos (founders and owners of Micato). there is an incredible amount of detail that goes into the planning and execution of a African Safari. Phillip made it look easy (although we know he was working hard to make our experience perfect). If we decide to go back to Africa (or visit India), there is only one Safari company we'd use and that's Micato.
