From Cape to Delta (13 days)

Day 1
Depart Home
N/a None
We begin our adventure as we wing to South Africa.
Day 2
Cape Town, South Africa
One&only Cape Town None
Welcome to South Africa! A Micato Safaris representative will greet you on arrival in Cape Town and will escort you to the One&Only Hotel. Perhaps the most picturesque city in all of Africa, Cape Town presides over a coastline of stunning grandeur, mountains rising above the seashore, and romantic, outlying vineyards whose proprietors have been practicing the art of winemaking since the 18th century. Cape Town is home to the best of everything - museums, restaurants, hotels, and natural beauty. Your home in Cape Town will be One&Only Cape Town, one of the city's most exciting new hotels, located on Cape Town's bustling Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
Day 3
Cape Town, South Africa
One&only Cape Town Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today you will depart for Khayelitsha township. In addition to gaining insight into local life here, we have an opportunity to see-and contribute to-the powerful work being done at Rosie's Soup Kitchen. Rosie has been running the Kitchen for 19 years from a one-room shack. With the help of her volunteer team, she feeds hundreds of people on a daily basis-people who might not otherwise get a meal. After lunch, you will visit Table Mountain, a sandstone plateau rising up above the Cape Flats. Ascend to the top of the mountain (weather permitting) by the state-of-the-art revolving Cable Car and marvel at the breathtaking views over the city and its beaches. Come evening, Micato guests are welcomed into the fold at the home of a prominent Cape Town couple for drinks and dinner, where you will hear a talk on local lore and "insider" Cape Town spots.
Day 4
Cape Town, South Africa
One&only Cape Town Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, depart on a full day tour of the captivating Cape Peninsula. During the tour you will visit Cape Point, the southern extremity of the Cape Peninsula, affording visitors views that are unrivalled anywhere else in the world. The reserve has a variety of wildlife including baboons, grysbok, rhebok and the hard-to-spot eland. Next it's off to historic Simon's Town with its unique Victorian architecture. After lunch continue to the Boulders Penguin Colony, part of the Cape Peninsula National Park. Almost 3,000 African (jackass) penguins reign supreme amidst rounded rocks and fish-filled False Bay. Newly constructed boardwalks take visitors to within a few metres of the penguins. Late afternoon return to the hotel and enjoy dinner at city restaurant.
Day 5
Cape Town, South Africa
One&only Cape Town Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Prepare yourself for some of the most beautiful - and bountiful - countryside anywhere in the world as you depart for a day of wine tasting and estate touring through the Cape Winelands. Begin your tour with a visit to the third generation family owned wine and cheese farm, Fairview. The key ingredient for enjoyment today is to go at your own pace as you explore vast vineyards and grand manor houses. Enjoy lunch at Delaire Graff Estate and a tour of Stellenbosch, with its Cape Dutch, Georgian, and Victorian architecture that have remained seemingly untouched for hundreds of years. Drive further in to the Cape Winelands to another village, Franschhoek. Spectacular vineyards cover the mountain slopes settled over 300 years ago by the Huguenots, who brought the French wine and food culture with them. Dinner will be enjoyed at a Cape Town restaurant.
Day 6
Sabi Sand Game Reserve
Ulusaba Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Early this morning you will fly to Sabi Sand Game Reserve. You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and some time to relax before departing on your first game run. The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is made up of a group of game reserves, including the Ulusaba Private Game Reserve-owned by Sir Richard Branson-where you will be staying. Ecologically and geographically, Ulusaba is linked to the world-famous Kruger National Park. So diverse is its habitat and wildlife that you have an excellent chance of experiencing close encounters with the Big Five-elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Ulusaba Safari Lodge is situated along the banks of the dry Mabrak riverbed. The rooms are built "tree house" style, and you really get the feeling of being at the heart of life in the bush. Your room will provide fascinating views of the animals as they stroll past on their way to the nearby watering hole. Wooden swing bridges and candlelit dinners in the Boma (outdoor dining room) are part of the
Day 7
Sabi Sand Game Reserve
Ulusaba Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
A typical day on safari starts with an early wake-up call, where you enjoy tea, coffee and snacks before setting off on the morning game drive with your ranger and tracker. Return to the lodge for breakfast, and the option of a guided walk in the reserve. After lunch, you will have time to enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings. Later in the afternoon, depart on another game drive, keeping a keen eye out for the elusive and shy leopard or watching the exhilarating speed of the lion preying his dinner. The excellent game viewing experience is complemented by other activities such as stargazing, bird watching and moonlit bush dinners or sundowners (weather permitting). Ulusaba also has a boutique spa which must have the most exciting location of almost any spa on Earth-800 feet above the African savannah.
Day 8
Johannesburg, South Africa
The Saxon Hotel Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After another morning game drive followed by breakfast, board your afternoon flight to Johannesburg. A Micato Safaris representative will greet you on arrival in Johannesburg and will escort you to The Saxon Hotel. Nestled in the exclusive Sandhurst suburb of Sandton, the Saxon makes a world class statement of ethnic African elegance, combined with personalized attention to detail. The Saxon has witnessed history within its walls as it became home to Nelson Mandela after he was released from prison. It was during this time that South Africa's former President used the serene setting of the hotel to edit his autobiography "Long Walk to Freedom."
Day 9
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Selinda Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
You will checkout early morning today (breakfast will be served in your room) for your flight to Okavango Delta via Maun, Botswana. To the northeast of the Okavango Delta are the Chobe and Linyanti Game Reserves. These areas are renowned for their predators and large concentrations of game, particularly Elephant. The Linyanti Reserve is a 275,000 acre private reserve on Chobe's Western boundary, and is accessible only by air. Styled in an African tradition, Selinda Camp is a small camp set under canvas. Each spacious and airy Meru tent comes with an en-suite bathroom and private veranda. Enjoy an afternoon game drive today.
Day 10
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Selinda Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
A typical day on safari starts with early morning wake up call, continental breakfast then morning game drive either by motorboat or safari vehicle (depending on water levels). Then brunch is served followed by an optional walking safari. Enjoy your afternoon tea, followed by an afternoon game drive.
Day 11
Okavango Delta, Botswana
Selinda Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The Linyanti Reserve is highly populated with animals particularly in the dry winter months when elephants concentrate in enormous numbers at the rivers and waterholes. Thousands of zebra spend the winter in the Linyanti before heading south to the Savuti in November in expectation of summer rains and good grazing. The particularly beautiful sable and roan antelopes are found here, and red lechwea and the aquatic sitatunga antelope inhabit the wetlands. The main predators are lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena. Selinda has had an explosion of wild dog litters in recent years, and this is one of the best areas to see them in Africa. Birdlife is abundant here and particularly vocal with a magnificent dawn chorus.
Day 12
Johannesburg, South Africa
N/a None
Enjoy an early morning game drive today. After brunch, you will be escorted to the airstrip to board your flight for Johannesburg via Maun. On arrival in Johannesburg, you will be transferred to the InterContinental Hotel where a day room has been reserved. Later, you will be escorted to the International Airport for your flight home.
Day 13
Johannesburg & Onward
N/a None
Arrive home knowing why South Africans have historically paid tribute to their stunning homeland with such elegance and affection: "If Nature here wishes to make a mountain, she runs a range for five hundred miles; if a plain, she levels eighty; if a rock, she tilts five thousand feet of strata on end; our skies are higher and more intensely blue; our waves larger than others; our rivers fiercer. There is nothing measured, small nor petty in South Africa…" (Olive Schreiner, Thoughts on South Africa, 1892)

Tour Features

  • Wildlife & Nature

One of Africa's many magics takes place where nature at its most vivid and eloquent meets one of humanity's highest arts: soothing, beautiful, joyfully expressive luxury. We tend to think of the two as unrelated, but they aren't, as From Cape to Delta so enjoyably proves. We look up to gorgeous Table Mountain from the exquisite One&Only Cape Town, and wander in lovely little towns and vineyards backdropped by regal mountains in the Winelands. And we're inspired by untroubled, unfiltered nature in the storied Okavango Delta while we laze productively at Selinda, one of Africa's finest luxury-encounters-wilderness camps.

We chose carefully to find the best African Tour company that we believed would provide the best, stand behind its product and not offer lame excuses. Micato proved its excellence in every way, including acknowledging an error and standing behind its well earned reputation to make it right. Not all would do that, as we all know from experience. M did a remarkable job and worth the money.. Best personnel and logistics around. So.......the best, and proud to tell the world.

Micto has a reputation for extraordinary service which is well deserved. We chose the Grand Safari and secretly thought that it really wouldn't fully justify the name or the price but were pleasantly proved wrong. We were greeted by Jane and Felix Pinto, company founders at the start and end of the trip who made us feel a part of their family. Every effort was made to make the experience comfortable, luxurious and magical and all of our needs were anticipated. They even showed up with a birthday gift for me when I had forgotten all about the date! The guides are charming and knowledgable about animals, history, culture, politics - you name it. The drivers were magicians at anticipating animal behavior and getting us to just the right spot to see just the right animals. We've since met other Micto travelers whom we were pleased to note have had similar experiences. Don't go to Africa with anyone but Micato.

Everything from the moment we were picked up in Capetown, to the end of our trip in Nairobi was top rate. The guides and drivers were exceptional, the hotels were fabulous. We really felt spoiled by the way we were treated. The only downside had to do with sending our bags home that we weren't going to use on the 18 day safari - one of the five bags never made it out of South Africa. DHL has no idea what happened to it.

We recently completed our Micato Safari. We spent 13 days in Kenya and Tanzania. In short, the trip was perfect. Starting with our Nairobi Airport greeting by Micato (Salma). She raced us through customs where we were picked up in a Micato Land Cruiser and delivered to our hotel where we were met by Micato Concierge Virginia. She seamlessly checked us into our Nairobi hotel. Then we met Phillip, our Safari Guide. Phillip was top notch and made sure we had a fantastic time including a delicious lunch at the home of the Pintos (founders and owners of Micato). there is an incredible amount of detail that goes into the planning and execution of a African Safari. Phillip made it look easy (although we know he was working hard to make our experience perfect). If we decide to go back to Africa (or visit India), there is only one Safari company we'd use and that's Micato.
