Arrive at Daniel Oduber Liberia International Airport.

Today meet your Private Bilingual Naturalist Guide and Spanish speaking driver. They will be with you for the next 5 days.

Depart by minivan for the approximately 3.5 - 4-hour drive to Arenal Volcano.

The Arenal Volcano National Park is located within the much larger Arenal Conservation Area, which protects more than 500,000 acres of rain forest, rivers, lakes and old volcanic lava fields. This area contains a great wealth of geologic and biological complexity. The volcano itself is approximately 5,500 feet high and has gone through several eruptive cycles. Within the national park, short trails pass through secondary forest as well as lava fields from previous eruptions.

Day 2
Arenal, Costa Rica
Nayara Hotel, Spa & Garden & Nayara Springs Breakfast, Dinner

Today, the following activities are included:

Arenal Butterfly Garden: The Butterfly Conservatory is the largest exhibition in the country which works as a learning center as well. The four more important ecological environs present in the area are reproduced in the garden. You can learn about the life cycle and metamorphosis of the butterflies. You will also live a practical educational experience about nature, with exhibits that illustrate how butterflies, frogs, insects, and plants exist in this natural environment. There are 25 species of butterflies in the garden and more than 800 individuals.

Night Walk & Dinner with a local Family: Meet your nature guide in the lobby and drive for about 45 minutes to Don Otto’s private farm. Don Otto has a good collection of palms, bromeliads, tree ferns and flowers in a well-manicured garden. After a few minutes, your nature guide will start a walk along ponds, lagoons and trails in search of several species of frogs, birds, insects and bats. Once you’re back from the nature tour, the family is waiting to welcome you in the house. You’ll learn about homemade cooking in a real wood stove, while they show you the traditional ways to prepare corn tortillas, vegetables from the farm and fresh coffee.

Day 3
Arenal, Costa Rica
Nayara Hotel, Spa & Garden & Nayara Springs Breakfast

Today, the following activity is included:

Arenal Sky Adventure Park Canopy Zip Line: Meet your Transfer Guide in the lobby and drive to a private reserve near the north-facing slopes of the Cordillera de Tilarán which offer volcano views, to be enjoyed from an aerial Sky Tram that rises 236 meters (780 feet) in a 1250 meters (4125 feet) ride, taking visitors up to a Mirador (lookout point) where the Canopy Zip Line circuit starts. There are currently ten zip line cables and they range in height from 30 meters (100 feet) to 200 meters (660 feet) and in length from 200 meters (660 feet) to 750 meters (2475 feet). Zipping along nearly two miles (three kilometers) of cables, you will see the rain forest as well as get a panoramic view of the volcano and lake from a whole new perspective

Nayara Hotel, Spa & Garden & Nayara Springs Breakfast

At Arenal Volcano with the following activity included:

Bird Watching Canopy Walkway: Be the first one to arrive to the Arenal Hanging Bridges private reserve where an expert guide will greet you to explore the surroundings. The guide will lead a slow pace walk around the forest edge, abandoned pasture lands and the primary forest into a unique trail and bridges. The diversity of environs in a relatively small area provides good birding. Regularly between 50 and 60 species are spotted in the area which is among the most productive in terms of bird watching.

Excellent accomodation and tours

Costa Rica Expeditions is a first class operation. Their guide Donald at the Montverde Lodge and Gardens was amazing. We saw many species of birds and mammals that we would not have seen had he not been along to point then out to us. Very professional, polite and well versed in the ecology of Costa Rica. Excellent English as well. All transfers from one location to another were executed perfectly. Always on time and safe. Most drivers spoke a fair amount of English and were only too glad to stop to point out sights or to stop for a photo. shoot. The Monteverde Lodge and Gardens was very comfortable and the restaurant El Jardin was great as well. Loved the whole experience.
