Arrival | Exploring Phnom Penh – the capital city

Before civil war broke out, Phnom Penh was nicknamed 'The Pearl of Asia', considered one of the finest cities in the region. Located in south-central Cambodia at the junction of the Mekong, Bassac and Tonle Sap rivers, Phnom Penh has been Cambodia’s capital for most of the last six centuries and is a metropolis that is expanding its world presence with each passing day.

Enjoy a living history experience to understand the ancient, royal and recent history of Phnom Penh and the Kingdom of Cambodia. Explore Wat Phnom to understand the legend of Lady Penh, the founder of the city; visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, two of the most striking buildings in the capital, considered some of the finest examples of Khmer architecture. Also visit the National Museum, a Cambodia culture history museum designed in Khmer style by a French archaeologist and painter in 1917.

Khmer historical sites

Brace yourself for a view of the turbulent times of the Khmer Rouge at Tuol Sleng, the capital city’s genocide museum and Cheung Ek, better known as ‘The Killing Fields’. Somber reminders of the cruelty of the Khmer Rouge regime, these visits provide a realization of the struggle that Cambodian people have faced and an appreciation of their tremendous courage to move on and rebuild their nation.

Exploring the Angkor Wat

The temple complex of Angkor is immersed within a terrain ranging from dense forest to open farmland. Dating back to 802 AD, the ruins of the Khmer Empire are some of the world’s most impressive artefacts. Largely overrun by vegetation the stone walls of the still-standing temples are gently crumbling, adding to the historic charm in a unique way.

Temples tour by tuk tuk

Tour the highlights of the complex aboard a local tuk tuk. Walled cities such as Angkor Thom, the terraces of the Elephants and Leper King, and the infamous Angkor Wat will show their faces. As will Bayon, the temple crowned with 215 giant, smiling faces of King Jayavarman VII. The region’s true highlight, Angkor Wat, claimed to be the largest religious building in the world, took 30 years to construct and its beauty still holds true.

Dating back to the 9th century, the oldest Khmer monuments stand within the Roluos temple group. Reconnoiter these peaceful temples and soak up the local atmosphere away from the crowds. A local boat will take you down winding waterways where you can observe the authentic and diverse lifestyle of the nearby floating community.

- 80% of the total tour cost to be paid 45 days prior to arrival date.

Note: If booked less than 45 days from arrival, full payment is required immediately.

Cancellation: Any cancellations should be made in writing.

- 22 days or more prior to arrival date: deposit only

- 21 - 15 days prior to arrival date: 50% of the total tour cost

- 14 - 8 days prior to arrival date: 75% of the total tour cost

- 7 days or less prior to arrival date: 100% of the total tour cost
