Day 4
Sonoma, CA United States
Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn Breakfast

Scenic Drive from San Francisco to Sonoma

Check out this morning and take your time driving up to Sonoma. We recommend a couple stops along the way:

We recommend exploring the area just north of the Golden Gate Bridge before heading to your hotel. A scenic drive takes you through the Marin Headlands, a vast section of former military land that played a major role in protecting the Golden Gate from potential attacks. Today, the land is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. To get to this area from San Francisco, take the Alexander Avenue exit immediately after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. Make a left off the exit and stay right on the road. There are many pull- offs as you climb up a hill, overlooking the Pacific and San Francisco. After several miles, the road ends at a parking lot and there is a 1/2 mile trail to see the Point Bonita lighthouse. There is a beautiful trail that goes through a tunnel, blasted through a rock, and crosses a foot bridge to get to the lighthouse. The trail is always open; the lighthouse is only open from 12:30 to 3:30, Saturday through Monday. Continue inland to stop at the Marin Headlands Visitor Center, which is open daily from 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM.

Next, stop for a lunch, some shopping, and a garden stroll at Cornerstone Sonoma - a wine country marketplace featuring a collection of world-class shopping, boutique wineries and tasting rooms, artisanal foods, and home to Sunset's Gardens + Outdoor Test Kitchen. A true Wine Country experience and perfect first stop for an introduction to the area. Afterwards, continue your drive north for check in at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn.

Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn is the ultimate Wine Country destination. The resort is in an idyllic setting, blessed by natural mineral hot springs that are piped into the magnificent and unparalleled Willow Stream Spa. Surrounded by world- famous vineyards, guests can enjoy the exclusive championship Sonoma Golf Course and dine at the hotel's signature restaurant, the Michelin-award-winning Santé.

Day 13
Santa Barbara, CA United States
Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Breakfast

Scenic Drive from Monterey to Santa Barbara

Check out this morning and make your way down Highway One to Santa Barbara.

During the drive, be sure to keep an eye out for the more than 60 California Condors that live in this area. Their wingspans can reach 9.5 feet, so it is a memorable experience to see one of these birds soaring gracefully above you. The Highway 1 pullouts between Nepenthe Restaurant and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park are good places to stop and scan for condors cruising along the coast or soaring over the ridges. One possible short walk is at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, to view the slender but elegant McWay Falls crashing into the Pacific Ocean. Or walk into McWay Canyon to enjoy the coastal redwoods, which grow to be the tallest trees on earth.

Another must see stop is Hearst Castle, William Randolph Hearst's famous estate, now a state historical monument, and a museum like no other.

Hearst Castle's history begins in 1865, when George Hearst purchased 40,000 acres of ranchland. By 1947, Hearst and architect Julia Morgan had created Hearst Castle: 165 rooms and 127 acres of gardens, terraces, pools and walkways -- all built to house Hearst's specifications and to showcase his legendary art collection.

Upon arrival in Santa Barbara, check in at the Four Seasons the Biltmore. The Biltmore was built in a colonial Spanish style and is set on 22 acres of lush gardens located on the sea and 4 miles from downtown Santa Barbara.

Afterward, return to the hotel to enjoy resort amenities or take a drive into downtown to explore the many shops and restaurants in the area.

Excellent service

Upon arriving in Klamath Falls, our daughter became pretty ill and was not able to whitewater raft on the first day of our vacation. I called the customer service number and explained the situation and asked if it would be possible to change to another day. The young woman I spoke with was SO kind and helpful. She took all the information, called the tour company and called me back in a very short period of time. She was able to schedule the tour for later in the week and by that day, we were ALL able to go on the whitewater rafting excursion. Crater Lake National park was spectacular and I would highly recommend this service and location!

Mindy organized a wonderful vacation for our family. We enjoyed spending two full days with an absolutely outstanding tour guide at Yellowstone followed by two more half days with the same guide at the Grand Tetons. He gave us an appreciation for the spectacular surroundings and led us to see over 25 species of wildlife. We also had a wonderful time attending a rodeo and biking. Mindy even was able to add a white water rafting trip down the Snake River at the last minute. We are so looking forward to planning our next trip at other national parks with this very knowledgeable and committed organization. Thank you so much!

Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Zion National Parks

By: Jim

The trip exceeded my expectations. The private tours of the parks were interesting and the tour guides were very kid-friendly. We had a free morning in Page, Arizona and added a trip to Lower Antelope Canyon. This is a "must see" and was the favorite part of our trip for my three children. This slot canyon is 9 miles from Page and is the most visited slot canyon in America. We used Ken's tours and were accommodated within an hour without reservations. One day tours are adequate for the South rim of the Grand Canyon and Bryce. However, my family could have spent several days in Zion. The beauty of all three parks cannot be captured on film. The daily hikes were beautiful and totaled 15 miles spread out over 4 days.

It was a delightful experience! We especially enjoyed our guide, Slim Woodruff. She not only enabled us to experience the Canyon but also shared well the history of the Kolb brothers and others in the development of “tourism” so that others could visit and explore the Canyon. When questioned, Slim was knowledgeable of all the support services available to those who live in the park and to those who visit. Our helicopter ride was exciting and definitely memorable also!
