Description

The jewels of the Val d'Orcia

Our driver will meet you at a convenient point and take you for a full day-trip into the Val d’Orcia region. Get far beyond the guidebook to understand Arezzo. Before Rome was even in existence, Arezzo was already one of the strongest and richest of the Etruscan towns and it had a place in of pre-eminence in the Etruscan League. Modern Arezzo is not only a lovely city… it’s also one of the wealthiest cities in Tuscany. The ancient crafts have come down through the centuries and today Arezzo still produces exquisite gold jewelry and high fashion clothing for the whole world. Its cathedral dominates the city, looking out past the rooftops towards the surrounding hills. Today this square is the theater of the famous Jousting Contest held in June and September. Antiques lovers will be delighted if they visit on the first Sunday of the month, where excellent bargains can be found in the market of furniture, paintings and ceramics. The next stop is Cortona, one of the oldest cities in Tuscany. More than 2000 years of history make Cortona one of the most fascinating and characteristic of Italian cities. Built above the Medici Fortress, Cortona is a city constructed with steep streets paved with huge stones. From the city walls, you can admire one of the most beautiful views in Italy. This tour is ideal for a more extended stay in Tuscany.

FlorenceTown did an excellent job!

Our travel agent used Florencetown to arrange a city tour, museum tours, and a day trip to Vinci. In every case the personnel were quite professional, spoke very good English, and the guides were quite knowledgeable of both art and history. Kudos especially to Mario, who arranged the individual excursions, who was always available even after normal business hours, and who even brought us a sack of fresh cherries which he had picked the day before. Florence town had several other excursions and experiences which I might try on our next trip to Florence, and I'm sure that they could arrange customized experiences if we asked.

Outstanding service

When using a tour service, the experience always boils down to the individual tour guide. We were lucky enough to have Vanessa as our Florence tour guide for 2 days. She was energetic and passionate about her hometown. We were a group of 11 (including 4 teenagers) and she kept all of us engaged for the entire time she was with us! Because we were on a private tour, we were able to have Vanessa show us sights not on the normal tour circuit...best gelato in Florence, local markets and local food tasting, best places to but leather, etc. Of course, we also visited the must sees (Accademia, Uffizi, Duomo, etc) and loved all that we learned. Thank you Venessa for showing us your city!!

She was so cute and knowledgeable of the city. You could tell she really loves her job. She was very personable also. She spoke many languages and English without a accent. At the end we wanted to bring her home with us. She has never been to America.
