Day 3
Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Tanzania
&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack
Today, you will make your way to the spectacular &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. The Ngorongoro Crater in Northern Tanzania, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 m deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Endangered black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephants wander the forests, black-maned lions stalk the grasslands, and flamingos crowd the soda lakes. An estimated 25 000 large mammals are resident in this bowl of plenty, including a population of approximately 6 000 resident wildebeest, 16 highly endangered black rhino and around 70 lions. Cheetah move in and out of the Crater, while leopard are most often encountered in the spectacular Lerai Forest. &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, consistently recognised as one of the world’s most luxurious and elegant places to stay, sits right on the edge of the Crater, offering unbeatable views of one of the natural travel wonders of the world.Spend two nights at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge in a suite. Day 5
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Today, after a wholesome early morning breakfast, you will be driven to the endless plains of the Serengeti for an exceptional stay at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas.

The luxurious tented camps of &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas move around the park year-round, attempting to anticipate the movements of the Great Migration and exploring the remote and beautiful corners of the Serengeti with excellent resident game. Using only private campsites, these mobile camps are entirely intimate and exclusive, featuring spacious safari tents, each with a double bed, indoor seating area, ensuite bathroom, separate w.c and al fresco bucket shower. Redolent of classic safari style, custom-made Indian rugs, crisp linens, sparkling crystal and polished brass lend flair to the simplicity of camping. Carefully planned according to the projected movements of the Great Migration, the camps aim to bring guests within comfortable driving distance of the herds. However, the wildebeest masses move with the rains, which may occur at a different time each year, so it is not always possible to accurately predict where they will be. &Beyond’s expert guides will always try to place guests in the midst of the thronging wildebeest but, should the animals not appear when expected, the guides’ intimate knowledge of the ample resident game will ensure a rich game viewing experience.

Spend three nights in a spacious tent with ensuite bathroom with outside bucket shower at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, game drives, refreshments on game drives and laundry.

Day 6
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Tour of Olduvai Gorge and Shifting Sands

Visit the world famous archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge, also known as the Cradle of Mankind. The earliest remains of homo sapiens were discovered here by Mary Leaky and anyone with an interest in mankind’s ancestors will be fascinated by this extraordinary place. Explore the quaint little museum and marvel at the rugged landscape before moving on to the Shifting Sands. This remarkable dune of volcanic ash appears completely out of place on the short grass plains and is constantly on the move, drifting slowly across the landscape at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Day 7
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Full day Empakai Crater Hike

This full-day hike explores the dramatic Empakai Crater. With a lake on the Crater floor and the entire caldera encircled by a steep, densely forested wall, Empakai is a scene of vast natural beauty. On clear days the Crater offers views of Ol Doinyo Lengai, Tanzania’s most recently active volcano. The steep slope calls for a degree of fitness, but the walk through the lush forest, with its ancient strangler figs and rich birdlife, is well worth the effort. The trail continues to the lakeshore, where you can view water birds such as flamingo.

Day 8
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Klein’s Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Enjoy an early morning game drive and a scrumptious breakfast before making your way to &Beyond Klein’s Camp.

&Beyond Klein’s Camp is situated on a private concession on the edge of the Serengeti National Park, where night drives and bush walks allow guests to explore the nocturnal world of the predators or to get an intimate glimpse into the details of the African bush. Overlooking the wooded hillsides, rolling grasslands, lush marshes and forested river banks of the Serengeti and with Kenya’s renowned Masai Mara directly to the north, Klein’s Camp is one of the most strategically positioned wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Set on the edge of the Kuka Hills, it commands breath-taking views of the valley below, through which huge herds of wildebeest and zebra migrate each year. While the Great Migration is an annual highlight, guests can experience excellent year-round lion, leopard and cheetah sightings. Huge herds of buffalo and breeding herds of elephant are all resident and birdwatching in the seasonal marshlands is exceptionally rewarding. Several species of raptor breed on the cliffs above Klein’s Camp and numerous birds of prey, including vultures and eagles, are frequently spotted soaring on the updrafts.

Spend two nights in an intimate cottage with ensuite bathroom with shower only at &Beyond Klein's Camp. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives and laundry.

Day 9
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Klein’s Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Safari Game Drive

At &Beyond, game drives are tailored to suit your preference, with a choice between shorter, twice-daily drives or one full-day game drive, with a stop for a picnic lunch. The game drives are carefully planned to anticipate the progress of the Great Migration, so you should not have to travel too far to see the vast herds. However, if the Migration has moved off, or the dramatic river crossings are in progress, you may choose to spend more time on the vehicle in order to maximise your chances of seeing this incredible phenomenon. When the Migration herds are not within easy reach, &Beyond’s properties are perfectly situated in some of the most remote and beautiful corners of the Serengeti, with game drives setting off in search of the exceptional resident game. Game drives are conducted in the Serengeti National Park, so off-roading and night drives are not permitted.

Day 10
