Day 1
Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Arusha Coffee Lodge. Breakfast

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport you will be met by a member of the &Beyond team who will transfer you by road to Arusha Coffee Lodge.

This attractive little town is situated beneath the towering peaks of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro. Arusha, renowned as the safari capital of Tanzania, offers a range of attractions and adventures. The town has numerous first-class restaurants, bars and markets to browse, and is the ideal place to spend a few relaxing days before embarking on a safari or attempting to scale Kilimanjaro. Not-to-be-missed is the Arusha National Park (in Ngurdoto Crater), the National Natural History Museum, the Laetoli Footprints (set in volcanic ash, dating back 3 500 000 years) and the beautiful coffee plantations, which dot the landscape.

Spend one night at Arusha Coffee Lodge in a plantation suite. Your stay includes accommodation and breakfast.

Day 2
Lake Manyara Airport, Tanzania
&Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

After your early breakfast, you will be transferred to Arusha Airport for your scheduled flight to Manyara Airstrip. On arrival, you will be met by a representative from &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge for your first game drive to the lodge.

Lake Manyara National Park offers a wilderness experience in diverse habitats, from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. Apart from a spectacular setting, the park is famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions and the vast elephant herds it was established to protect. The shores of the lake, encrusted with pink flamingo, attract more than 400 species of birds, many of them waterfowl or migrants. Large herds of buffalo, cheetah, Masai giraffe and impala roam the lake shores and the forested valley slopes. A Lake Manyara safari is a fascinating experience as the park also features a ground-water forest; acacia tortilis woodland and hot springs called Maji Moto.

Spend two nights at &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge. Accommodation is in an elegant, stilted treehouse, which is cradled in the boughs of mahogany trees. Your room is built of timber and makuti (palm fronds) and has a spacious sitting area, viewing deck and a lovely ensuite bathroom. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, emergency medical evacuation insurance, laundry and daily lodge activities.

Day 3
Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Tanzania
&Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Cultural visit to the Hadzabe bushmen

Spend the day with the Hadzabe people, ancient hunter-gatherers who inhabit the land near Lake Eyasi and witness their unchanged, traditional way of life and harmony with the earth. Accompanied throughout by an &Beyond ranger, guests have the opportunity to engage with the Bushmen and learn all about their time-honoured hunting techniques, survival skills, food preparation and cultural norms. A veritable step back in time, this is an undeniably authentic cultural journey into rural Tanzania that reveals the untold world of these charismatic people.

Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Tanzania
&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Enjoy an early morning breakfast before a scenic drive back to the Manyara airstrip. On arrival, you will be met by a representative from &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge who will drive you to the lodge.

The Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, within the Serengeti, is home to more than 30 000 protected animals. It is an area of spectacular beauty and excellent game viewing, a truly unique safari destination in Africa. The Ngorongoro Crater, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 metre deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Fresh springs and a large soda lake quench the thirst of all the inhabitants. Black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephants wander the forests, black-maned lions stalk the grasslands, and flamingos crowd the soda lakes.

Spend two nights at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. Accommodation is in a suite with ensuite bathroom with bath and shower. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives and laundry.

Day 5
Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Tanzania
&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack
Full day Empakai Crater Hike

This full-day hike explores the dramatic Empakai Crater. With a lake on the Crater floor and the entire caldera encircled by a steep, densely forested wall, Empakai is a scene of vast natural beauty. On clear days the Crater offers views of Ol Doinyo Lengai, Tanzania’s most recently active volcano. The steep slope calls for a degree of fitness, but the walk through the lush forest, with its ancient strangler figs and rich birdlife, is well worth the effort. The trail continues to the lakeshore, where you can view water birds such as flamingo.

Day 6
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Klein's Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Tuck into a sensational breakfast feast before your drive back to the Manyara Airstrip, for your scheduled flight to &Beyond Klein’s Camp/Serengeti Under Canvas or Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp.

The Serengeti National Park, meaning “endless plains” in the Masai language, is undoubtedly one of the world’s most celebrated Wilderness areas and is an ongoing source of inspiration to writers, filmmakers and photographers. It is Tanzania’s oldest game reserve, renowned for the part it plays in the annual Great Migration, when an estimated three million antelope – mostly wildebeest – migrate to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. This epic, seasonal journey is a deeply moving experience and a wonderful photographic subject. Here visitors to the park can roam its sprawling plains on exhilarating game drives or hop into a hot-air balloon ride for an once-in-a-lifetime wilderness adventure. The Serengeti National Park is also home to the Olduvai Gorge, where groundbreaking archaeological discoveries have been made, as well as the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater - a World Heritage Site.

Spend three nights at &Beyond Klein's Camp or &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas or &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives and laundry.

Day 7
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Klein's Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Tour of Olduvai Gorge and Shifting Sands

Visit the world famous archaeological site of Olduvai Gorge, also known as the Cradle of Mankind. The earliest remains of homo sapiens were discovered here by Mary Leaky and anyone with an interest in mankind’s ancestors will be fascinated by this extraordinary place. Explore the quaint little museum and marvel at the rugged landscape before moving on to the Shifting Sands. This remarkable dune of volcanic ash appears completely out of place on the short grass plains and is constantly on the move, drifting slowly across the landscape at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Day 8
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Klein's Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Safari Game Drive

Game drives descend into the Ngorongoro Crater through a lush highland forest, with magnificent birdlife to be spotted among the different tree species. Once on the grassy crater floor, you may discover a large variety of grazing herbivores, as well as the predators that are attracted by this abundant supply of prey. Depending on the time of year, you may see huge flocks of pink flamingo around the shores of the shallow Lake Magadi, while the surrounding swamp is inhabited by hippo. Safari vehicles are closed, with glass windows and a pop-up roof. Off-road driving is not permitted.

Day 9
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
&Beyond Klein's Camp Breakfast

Enjoy an early morning game drive and a tantalising breakfast before being driven back to the airstrip, where we wave a fond farewell as you board your scheduled flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your outbound flight.
