Description

Escape the crowds of Skagway and head to Haines, an authentic, off-the-beaten track location filled with natural wonders. The trip begins with a 45-minute shared fast ferry ride along the steep-walled fjord connecting Skagway to Haines. Your guide will acquaint you with the natural history of Lynn Canal as you look for humpback whales, harbor seals, and bald eagles.Upon your arrival in Haines, you will visit the Hammer Museum, a quirky museum dedicated to man’s first tool, and spanning history from the Egyptian pyramids to the Space Age. Next, you will enjoy a scenic drive along the Chilkat River down to Chilkat State Park. Dominated by a huge waterfall pouring out the face of Rainbow Glacier with the snow-capped Chilkat Mountains in the background, the view here is spectacular! Serving as an artist’s haven, you will have the opportunity to meet a couple of local artists, John and Sharon Svenson, and tour their handcrafted timber-frame gallery filled with unique and unusual creations.Your excursion will be topped off with a tour of historic Fort Seward and a final stop at the Pilot Light Restaurant, where owner, Cambria Goodwin, featured on “Cupcake Wars”, will serve a tasty meal featuring her signature salmon bisque soup, Caesar salad, home-baked bread, and of course, dessert.
