For a more leisurely tour of the Amalfi Coast, this walk along the path known as ‘Sentiero degli dei’ (path of the gods), takes some beating. The path takes its name from the numerous Roman temples that were dotted around the area. You will be driven to Vettica Maggiore, a small town between Positano and Amalfi and the hiking tour will start from here. The walk starts with a flight of steps, set amidst lush vegetation, at the end of which lies San Domenico, which consists of the Church of Santa Maria and a Dominican convent. The route now goes towards Nocelle (a subdivision of Positano) and this is perhaps the most attractive stretch of the whole walk. Here, the path snakes through peaceful pinewoods, past hidden caves and offers the most stunning views of the Amalfi Coast. From Nocelle, walkers can decide to continue walking to Amalfi or Positano or take the bus. Degree of difficulty: Medium; once the steps have been ascended, the walk is either flat or downhill. Be sure to bring a camera for some spectacular pictures and ensure that you are wearing comfortable walking shoes. Water and sunscreen are also a must.
