Zambia retains the charm of undiscovered Africa – the Luangwa Valley is noted for being one of Africa’s prime wildlife sanctuaries with prolific game and predators roaming the plains. The 2.25-million-hectare Kafue National Park is one of the largest in Africa and boasts varied habitats: the Kafue, Lufupa and Lunga rivers adjoin peaceful stretches of riverine vegetation, dambos, wetlands and extensive miombo woodland while seasonal floodplains and swampland are found in the north. Owing to this diversity, Kafue is blessed with abundant wildlife.

As arguably the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa, the Luangwa Valley marks the end of the Great Rift Valley and covers 9 000 square kilometres through which the meandering Luangwa River runs.

Characterised by oxbow lagoons, woodland and plains, the area hosts huge concentrations of game including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo and over 400 species of birds.

Kafue National Park’s Lufupa River overflows in summer creating a large floodplain delta system dotted with miombo woodland. The Lunga and Kafue rivers are wide and slow-flowing, banded by riverine forest. The Busanga Plains are home to hundreds of oribi, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, wildebeest, zebra and buffalo – a big attraction for predators which include wild dog, cheetah and lion.

The birdlife at Shumba is unquestionably an attraction as the park boasts 491 species.

Terms & Conditions

Once a booking has been confirmed to us, we will change the booking’s status from “provisional” to “confirmed” on condition that you have secured the specified non-refundable deposit from your guests. The standard amount is 20% of the total land arrangement costs but this amount can vary depending on certain terms and conditions or party size. Please contact your journey specialist for details and please do NOT confirm a booking unless you have this non-refundable deposit, as you will become liable for cancellation fees if the booking does not materialize. In some parts of the world it has been customary for the guest to pay a nominal deposit for a holiday, with a small penalty if they cancel. Wilderness camps are relatively small making the fixed running costs and resultant break- even occupancies extremely sensitive. The cancellation of a mere two guests can put the camp into a loss situation and therefore we cannot accept bookings made with a nominal deposit, nor can we afford lenient cancellation terms. Please ensure that you have the required non-refundable deposit from your guests before a booking is confirmed with us. We urge you to review the booking conditions between your company and your guests. We believe that guests who are firmly committed to travelling and are covered by full travel insurance in the event that they cancel for insurable reasons e.g. medical problems, should have no problems in committing to this non-refundable deposit

Full payment from the guest is due eight weeks prior to arrival, after which our cancellation fees escalate in accordance with our cancellation policy.

Cancellation fees are levied when guests cancel confirmed reservations. The costs of the cancellation fees will escalate the closer the guests, cancels to their confirmed departure date. Our penalties escalate from forfeiting the deposit to payment in full as follows:

• If a cancellation is made more than 8 weeks before departure the non-refundable deposit is forfeited.

• If a cancellation is made between 4 weeks and 8 weeks, the deposit plus 25% of the price.

• If a guest cancels between 3 and 4 weeks prior to departure, 50% of the price.

• If a guest cancels between 2 and 3 weeks prior to departure, 60% of the price.

• If a guest cancels less than two weeks prior to departure, the 100% of the price.

Groups and Incentives have a different cancellation fee policy. This is available at time of quoting.

What a great job these folks do! Everything was above par and I felt like royalty. We had private guides, incredible accommodations and our connections went very well. I was very pleased and would, most certainly, use this company again and recommend to anyone! Many thanks for a wonderful trip!

The Wilderness camps were wonderful. The facilities were clean and spacious and the food was outstanding. The staff was very warm, competent and welcoming; I am not sure I have ever been in a place where everyone was as genuinely happy about life. The guides were knowledgeable, fun, friendly and passionate about their trade. We enjoyed the experience immensely

A wonderful trip that exceeds superlatives. The trip started in Cape Town SA where we visited the Kirstenboch botanical garden and wine country. Then for Safari to Namibia Rhino Camp and Skeleton Coast both run by Wilderness Safaris. Individual bungalows at both camps and at all others as well. Great camps. All along the way we were escorted from one connection to the next and it was wonderful. The second time I might (?) be able to do it myself. From Namibia to the Okavango delta in Botswana - one of the premier places in the world for wild life viewing. We stopped in two camps - Tubu Tree camp and Chobi. In Chobi we saw all wild life x2. Finally to Sabu little bush camp near Kruger SA - also wonderful. Food was out of this world. Starting in Namibia, mostly desert, and going to Botswana next was the right order. We will want to go back. We still have want to see the jungle and will use Michael.
