This morning your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel for a full day tour of the region of Vojvodina.
After approximately 1 h ride you will reach the charming town of Novi Sad. Situated at the foot of Fruska Gora hills, in the shadow of the Petrovardin Fortress – the Gibraltar of the Danube – this second largest city in Serbia offers a laid-back, relaxing atmosphere to its visitors. You will take a stroll from the 18th century Liberty Square down Zmaj Jovina Street, the picturesque 19th century promenade that is today the heart of the town. Your guide will show you the architectural delights of the numerous sacral and profane buildings such as the Catholic Church and the Town Hall. The main street leads to the beautiful Danube Park, the oldest nature park in Novi Sad, with picture-perfect ponds, gloriettes and promenades.
After the walking tour your driver will take you to visit the Petrovaradin Fortress. Nestled on the river meander overlooking Novi Sad and Danube River, the fortress has always had a dominant strategic location. Here the traces of human inhabitation date as far back as the late Stone Age but the first larger fortifications were created with the arrival of the Romans. The current fortress was built between 1692 and 1780 during the reigns of the Austrian rulers Leopold I, Joseph I, Charles VI, Maria Theresa and Joseph II.
After some time for lunch you will continue for your final destination of the day – the quaint town of Sremski Karlovci. This tiny town is easy to explore and ideal to grasp the slow pace of life in the region. The town’s centre holds the baroque style buildings that are of immense importance to Serbian history and culture. With its two tall bell towers, the 1762 Gathering Church of St. Nicholas is a masterpiece iconostas of Serbian baroque. The Patriarchy Palace, the residence of the Srem District Episcope, is considered to be Vojvodina’s most remarkable 19th century building. According to the legend, whoever drinks water from the 1799 Four Lions Well will return to Sremski Karlovci to marry. The area’s picturesque vineyards add to its unique character and beautiful scenery.
Later today your guide and driver will take you back to Belgrade.
