This morning meet your guide and driver at the hotel lobby for a private transfer to Skadar Lake. The peacefulness of the Skadar Lake, with its jagged coastline of many bays, islands and peninsulas will enchant even the most experienced traveler.
In the small fishing village of Virpazar you will be welcomed by a local family Uksanovic that will prepare a wine tasting for you. Among others, you will taste the famous red vine Vranac, a product Montenegrins are extremely proud of. Then we will take a private traditional boat that will reveal the lake’s opulent beauty in the most distinctive way. While cruising along the lake, we will enjoy the view the numerous attractions: extraordinary birds, water lilies in bloom, secluded beaches... You will first come to the small island of Grmozur that used to house a prison for the political captives of former years (the Montenegrin "Alcatraz"). Then you will continue to the mouth of the Moraca River and the picturesque sandbar that is home to the numerous shell species. Back on board, your host will prepare a light snack of home-made prosciutto, cheese, bread and olive oil. The beauty of the Skadar Lake and its numerous islands led medieval feudal lords to erect fortifications and monasteries on them whose architecture is a true rarity today. You will pass by the Vranjina peninsula that hides the Monastery of St. Nicholas; and the Lesendro fortress that represents the eternal torch of Montenegrin freedom.
Next, you will continue to the town of Cetinje, the one-time center of Montenegrin Rule. Situated beneath the summit of Lovcen which towers to 590 meters above sea level, Cetinje is a blend of natural beauty and impressive cultural heritage. The Old Royal Capital of Cetinje is today a centre of historical and national identity; the memory and continuity of Montenegrin people. Your guide will take you for a walk through the UNESCO site of Cetinje. You will visit the historical St. Peter’s Monastery, founded between 1701 and 1704 by Prince-Bishop Danilo I on the site of the former court of Ivan Crnojevic. You will also visit the Museum of King Nikola, once a royal residence dominated by a luxurious Art-Nouveau style.
After the tour, you will enjoy a scenic ride back to your hotel.
