Description

Meet your guide and driver at the hotel for a full day tour of the archeological site of Stobi and the town of Skopje.

Lying in a fertile valley just a few minutes off the highway that connects Macedonia with Greece, the ancient city of Stobi was a vital trade route in its days. This crossroad of ancient civilizations has left a rich legacy of antique theaters, palace ruins, brightly-colored mosaics and religious relics for visitors to enjoy today. Stobi experienced the highest prosperity in the 3rd and 4th century A.D. This archaeological site offers sweeping views of the central Macedonian plain and contains edifices such as the 2nd century amphitheatre, the Theodosia palace and early Christian ruins with extensive and ornate mosaic floors. You will continue with your guide and driver to the nearby Popova Kula (Monk’s Tower) winery, where you will enjoy a private wine tasting including a light snack of bread, cheese and prosciutto. The winery specializes in the production of quality red wines like Cabernet and Merlot; white wines like Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel and Sauvignon Blanc; as well as some typical local varieties like Stanushina, Temjanika, Zilavka, Prokupec and Vranec. Enjoy your scenic ride back to Skopje for afternoon walking tour of the capital of Macedonia. In its 2,500 years of existence, Macedonia’s welcoming capital city has had many different embodiments. All of them – from Roman to Byzantine, from Ottoman to Yugoslav – have left permanent traces on the city as is evidenced by Skopje’s varied architecture and its mix of cultures. Yet in addition to its strong historical associations, Skopje is a forward-looking city offering an abundance of modern amenities and attractions. Here one can find sleek modern hotels above the cobblestoned Ottoman streets, outstanding neoclassical homes right around the corner from grand old Yugoslav-era buildings, red-bricked Byzantine churches and rounded Turkish mosques, chic cafés, shopping malls and brightly-colored new offices. Your guide will show you all the exciting sites such as: the old Railway station – first railway station on the Balkans; the monument of Mother Teresa and The memorial house of Mother Teresa; The Stone Bridge – the most striking monument on the entire Balkan, built in the 6th century; Mustafa Pasha Mosque - one of the most beautiful Islamic buildings in Macedonia and many more…

You will also visit the Fortress Kale – the most outstanding tourist attraction of the city of Skopje. The oldest section of the fortress is within the present day fortifications and was built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, born in the village of Taorion near Skopje. You will end your tour with a walk around the Old Bazaar.

Top Notch Tours and Hotels (Mostly)

By: MB

Overall, we had a wonderful experience with this company, enjoying our hotels and tours immensely. The highlights were the Hotel Bellevue in Dubrovnik, Croatia; the private boat tour of the islands near Dubrovnik; the Hotel Monte Mulini in Rovinj, Croatia; and the Chef's Table dinner at Hotel Monte Mulini. Some lowlights were the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera in Punta Skala. It is very isolated and too far from the town of Zadar. In order to go to Zadar, it is a quite expensive taxi ride away, so we were not motivated to eat dinner anywhere but at the resort, and both meals were mediocre. The Falkensteiner itself felt like a Disney World resort (not in a good way) with lots of families with small children and a massive hotel that felt like a giant cruise ship. Maid service was spotty, seemingly difficult to get good service with the large quantity of rooms they had to manage.

GREAT fun!

Our guide, Zrinka (sp?) was fantastic, a local professor with a great sense of humor - essential with our group of 9! We enjoyed the history of Croatia and Dubrovnik on our drive to a vineyard and wine tasting in a very nice, comfortable luxury Mercedes van. One at the vineyards we piled into trucks and drove up into the terraces with the winemaker, followed by a tasting...and purchasing..of some delicious Croatian wines. Following this we then headed to the oyster beds where we boarded a boat to a private island to enjoy fresh Croatian oysters followed by mussles, local wine and grapa. Z was very accommodating to changes to the schedule! We drove to the top of the cable car and then took the ride down, to be met by our driver. Z then accompanied us into the Old Town giving us the history and answering questions. We were so happy with our guide, she was accommodating of any changes from the original tour, she was insightful, very knowledgeable and charming. We would highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic, Lionel organised everything beautifully. The Hotels were great, small rooms but big enough. The Tours were excellent and you could enjoy all the tour or have shorter time if you wanted and change a tour if you were tired. I would certainly use Lionel again and will be passing on his name to our friends

Wonderful Tour Guide in Split

By: Lisa S

Reviewed on: 28 Jun 2018

We recently ended a boat charter in Split and were greeted in port by such a wonderful guide and driver who whisked us away for an excellent tour of Diocletian's Palace. Our guide was not only extremely knowledgeable, but she was a joy to be with. She spoke perfect English and was able to maneuver around the large groups so that we never felt crowded or overwhelmed while touring the palace. She recommended a wonderful place for lunch after our tour which we enjoyed immensely.
