Meet your guide and driver for a private full day tour of Hrvatsko Zagorje, the hinterland of Zagreb. After a 1-hour ride you will arrive to Trakošćan Castle. Sitting upon a hill and facing its reflection in the lake underneath, the castle leads us into a true fairy tale. A stunning neo-gothic castle dates all the way back in the 1334, when it was only a fortification of Trakošćan. It changed quite a few hands throughout the history and was finally inherited by the count Janko Drašković, who decided to build himself a summer residence. Walking through the halls furnished with Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and neo-classicistic pieces, with stoves and mirrors, you will able to reconstruct a whole world gone by.
Then you will continue through the landscape of hills, forests and picturesque villages, to the town of Varaždin – the Baroque capital of Croatia. It was home to the region’s wealthiest nobles, landowners, artisans and artists, especially in the late 1700s, when the city flourished and became the capital of Croatia. The charm of “Croatia’s Vienna” lies not only in its architecture, but also in its pleasant atmosphere, vivacious streets and squares and the rich cultural heritage. Strolling with your guide, you will get to know the charm of this town-monument. The Old Burgh, an unconquerable mediaeval fortification, later became a castle with a Renaissance palace aristocratic palace inside. Having been turned into a lush promenade, it has still retained the protective role – nowadays protecting from the intruding traffic and hubbub of daily life.
In the afternoon, your guide and driver will take you back to Zagreb.
