This morning meet your guide and driver for a tour around the picturesque environs of Split. You will first visit the small town of Omis where you will take a walk with your guide. Founded on the steep slopes of Dinara Mountain and surrounded by the Cetina River and the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea, it is a town of natural and historical contrasts. During the Middle Ages Omis was infamous for its pirates (corsairs) whose ships brought them great fame, built for attack and fast return into the mouth of the Cetina River. The testimonials of proud and turbulent history can be found on every corner of the Omis Riviera. The ancient town, its churches and fortresses are silent stone reminders of the power and the might of famous corsairs.
Then, with the spectacular views of Cetina River Canyon, you will continue your ride through the beautiful countryside. This secluded area had a great significance in the Croatian history – it was a home of the unique Poljica Republic, an autonomous community that existed in the Middle Ages. Organized as a „peasants” republic, it had its own original legal system whose most important document was the Poljica Statute. Among other things, it stated that "everybody has the right to live," contrary to many medieval European laws at the time.
In the small village of Gata, you will be welcomed by a local family in their humble home. They will show you how to make the traditional specialty from the Poljica Republic period – soparnik. With the alluring scents of the local Dalmatian cuisine, you will enjoy this healthy delicacy whose original recipe resisted the flow of centuries.
