Day 7
Puno, Peru
Titilaka - Relais & Chateaux Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Guided visit of Lake Titicaca

After breakfast start your full day excursion on the lake. Taquile Island is a living museum, a secluded island of weavers whose textiles have been hailed as heritage masterpieces by UNESCO. Part of the uniqueness of the island’s culture comes from their traditional social structure which is reflected in their dress, traditions and greetings. Depart from Titilaka’s pier and travel by boat for about an hour to Taquile. You will reach the southern point of Taquile which is furthest from the city of Puno and therefore less frequented. You will be welcomed by the local weaver Juan and his family, who will teach you about their weavings and share anecdotes about the island they proudly call home. Juan will explain that though the Aymaras are the dominant culture in the region, Taquile has remained a Quechua stronghold. As you head back toward the lodge, look back and appreciate the stunning scenery: the umber soil contrasts against the intense blue hues of the lake and the sky, while the snowcapped mountains of the Cordillera Real frame the setting.

After a picnic lunch on Taquile head to the legendary islands of Uros and meet one of traditional the families that live there. The Uros Floating Islands are located near the protected National Reserve of Titicaca. The people of Uros are a proud culture who due to persecution by other groups found refuge by living on manmade islands many years ago. They call themselves kot-suña or people of the lake who claim to have "black blood," as they are immune to the cold and consider themselves to be owners of the lake and its waters. Learn about their history, uses for totora reeds and customs after exploring one of these impressive islands. The site is a must for travelers to the area; thus expect to see many other visitors.

Return to Titilaka in times for afternoon tea followed by happy hour and dinner.

Day 8
Cusco, Peru
Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba Breakfast, Lunch

Fly to Cusco & visit Pisac Market and Ruins

Today you will be taken to the airport in Juliaca for your flight to Cusco. On arrival to Cusco you will be welcomed by your host and depart to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

In the shadows of the mountains east of the Sacred Valley lies the traditional Andean town of Pisac. The town center is a thriving hub of commerce that still operates as it has since Incan times; with stalls filling the plaza selling everything under the Peruvian sun, and locals coming down from the highlands to exchange their produce for necessities as well as luxuries in a trade called “trueque”.

You will also visit the Pisac ruins, a very important city during Inca times and the only Inca site apart from Machu Picchu with a stone sun dial. Your expert guide will explain the history of the site and the most interesting temples and structures, and you will be able to enjoy a breathtaking view of the countless agricultural terraces leading down to the Urubamba River and the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Overnight in the Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba

Day 9
Cusco, Peru
Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba Breakfast

Visit Chinchero, Maras & Moray

Start your experience in Chinchero, a small colonial town built upon Inca ruins high in the windswept plains of the Sacred Valley (12,430 ft.). It would be easy to spend your entire visit lost in the breathtaking views and architecture that hasn´t changed in centuries, but the real star of the show here is the market, which is the most authentic Andean market experience you will find, with locals making the long journey to exchange their handicrafts, food, and textiles for other necessities.

Next, descend to the fascinating salt mines of Maras, where seeing the locals mining the salt by hand is truly a unique experience. You will have the option to buy some salt of your own, supporting the local economy and making an excellent souvenir, before continuing on to the ruins at Moray. It has been suggested that these huge circular terraces have a cosmological meaning, however the Incas are thought to have used them as a kind of “crop laboratory”.

Overnight at the Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba

Day 10
Cusco, Peru
Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel Breakfast

Explore Machu Picchu

Today you will be taken to the train station in Ollantaytambo for your morning train departure. Meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel for a short walk to the bus station and a 30-minute bus ride up to Machu Picchu Citadel (elevation: 8,000 ft. – 2,432 m.a.s.l.)

Scratching the surface of the heavens from its place atop the grandest of mountaintop pedestals, it is easy to lose yourself in the mystique and grandeur of this enigmatic citadel. Soak in the energy and atmosphere of one of the most significant archeological sites on the planet while your guide helps you uncover the secrets behind key areas of interest such as the Intihuatana (the sun dial), Inti Punku (the sun gate), the Sacred Plaza, and the Temple of the Sun.

Allow approximately three hours for guided exploration, but feel free to stay and explore on your own as your schedule allows. Overnight in the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.

Day 11
Cusco, Peru
Belmond Palacio Nazarenas Breakfast

Hike Wayna Picchu & return to Cusco

Take a short walk from your hotel, followed by a 30-minute bus ride to Machu Picchu citadel (8,000 ft. – 2,432 m above sea level).

This ascent is an absolute must-do for the adventurous! Trek for approximately 2 hours from the archeological site, reaching the summit of Wayna Picchu. There are two entrance opportunities dependent on availability: 7am or 10am. We will choose the 7am time for you unless requested otherwise.

Your switchback ascent brings you to the spectacular summit for an extremely privileged panoramic view of Machu Picchu Citadel and the jagged, larger-than-life Andes. This hike is as rewarding as it is demanding. Allow about two hours for the hike, and be prepared for a short section of narrow mountain-side stairs that are not for the faint of heart.

In the early afternoon you can head back down to Aguas Calientes for your train departure. On arrival to Poroy station you will be collected and taken to Cusco and your hotel.

You will spend the night at the Palacio Nazarenas.

Day 12
Cusco, Peru
Belmond Palacio Nazarenas Breakfast, Snack

Highlights of Cusco and San Blas and the pre-Columbian Art Museum

Explore the city that has gained world-wide fame and UNESCO World Heritage protection for its enthralling architecture and vibrant local culture. Your guide will provide insight and anecdotes about the plazas, churches, and points of interest around the Main Square before continuing onto San Blas, the arts district of Cusco since Inca times and the nucleus for religious art and propaganda for the entire continent of South America during the Spanish Conquest. Finish your excursion in the pre-Columbian Art Museum, which showcases a selection of about 450 extraordinary pieces of art from various pre-Columbian Peruvian cultures. Allow approximately four hours for the entire experience.

You will spend the night at the Palacio Nazarenas.

Day 13
Puerto Maldonado, Peru
Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Fly to Puerto Maldonado and travel to your lodge

In the morning you will fly to Puerto Maldonado where you will be collected and taken to the pier for your boat journey to the Reserva Amazonica Lodge.

After gathering with your Interpreter, choose from the different excursions available at the Lodge. On your first day, we recommend a guided walk along the Trail System, within the lodge’s natural area, where you will discover the Amazon Basin. This trail offers an excellent introduction to the forest environment winding past impressive trees such as the Shihuahuaco, and the beautiful strangler fig, offering excellent opportunities for bird watching and observing exotic insects. (Alternatives available: Native farm, Canopy and Anaconda Walk, and Ese'Eja Experience .)

We also recommend on the first night our Twilight River excursion — a guided afternoon boat ride on the Madre de Dios River from the Inkaterra lodge. Witness the transformation from a diurnal to a nocturnal world: animals and birds of the daytime give way to species specially adapted to the night. As you enjoy their paradise, you will learn about their habits, while you search for nightjars, owls, capybaras and up to three different caiman species.

Overnight at the Reserva Amazonica Lodge.

Day 14
Puerto Maldonado, Peru
Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Amazon Rainforest Excursions

Rest in bed or rise early — the choice is yours. Breakfast begins at 5:30 a.m., for those who want to avoid the heat and enjoy nature at its fullest. A full buffet breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

This morning you may visit the Lake Sandoval excursion into the Tambopata National Reserve. Glide in a wooden canoe, across a beautiful, mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter, as well as red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas, side-neck turtles and black caimans. Return to the Inkaterra lodge for lunch.

After lunch, consider visit the remarkable Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. Ascending the first tower, 29 meters above the forest ground, you begin your encounter with the treetop realm. For more than a quarter of a mile, you will literally walk through the rainforest canopy on a suspension bridge network linking eight observation platforms. During this hour-and-a-half expedition, be on the lookout for bright toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys and the three-toed sloth. If you wish you may extend your excursion and appreciate the sunset from one of the towers. The excursion finishes by returning to the lodge. Gather at The Eco Centre where the staff will make presentations of the excursions for the next day.
