At 8:00am, you will meet your professional guide in the hotel lobby. You will drive approximately 2 hours to Edirne to see Sinan’s major masterpieces in the city, especially the Selimiye Mosque.
First, you will visit the masterpiece of Mimar Sinan, Selimiye Mosque Edirne situated on a small hill in the centre of Edirne, the kulliye is composed of the mosque, a medrese, a dar-ul hadis and a timekeeper’s room. With its dome and four minarets, the mosque can be seen from a long way as one approaches the city, which it has come to symbolise. The courtyard is very large. Sinan may have planned to include more buildings in it. The mosque is also famous for its tile panels, its marble pulpit, the ornamental paintings of its muezzin gallery and the geometric kundekari motifs of its door panels.
You will continue to the Old Mosque and Uc Serefeli Mosque.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant where you can try a liver dish or other specialties of Edirne.
After your lunch, visit the Rustem Pasha Kervansaray. It is a combination of city han and stopover Kervansaray. The city han consists of two rows of rooms along a simple rectangular courtyard. The little prayer pavilion in the courtyard has not survived. The stopover han surrounds a trapezoid courtyard. The actual Kervansaray is situated on the ground floor with the kitchen and the guest rooms on the upper floor. Some of the rooms have an interesting eyvan structure. Each han has its own entrance.
You will stroll through the old city of Edirne where you will be able to observe the local life in a small city of Turkey.
On the way back to Istanbul,you will stop at the Süleyman Bridge. This bridge consists of four bridges of different sizes, adding up to a total length of 636 m. It is the only bridge to carry an inscription with Sinan’s name.
At the end of the day, you will drive back to Istanbul and return to your hotel approximately around 5:00pm.
