Upon arrival at the airport in Yogyakarta you are picked up by your private guide and driver and transferred to your resort in Borobudur.

Check in, then the remainder of the day is free at leisure to enjoy the many facilities or explore the beautiful surroundings.

AMANJIWO – BOROBUDUR TEMPLE – MENDUT – PAWON After breakfast at the resort, you will explore one of the world's truly great ancient monuments, Borobudur, the single largest Buddhist structure anywhere on earth. It was built in the 8th century with remarkable attention to detail. Set in the heart of the verdant Kedu Plain, the backdrop of mighty active volcanoes only enhances the sense of awe and drama.Borobudur lay abandoned and hidden for centuries under layers of volcanic ash and thick jungle growth until it was re-discovered by Thomas Raffles in the 19th century. You will also visit the smaller but equally interesting temples of Mendut and Pawon. Mendut, Borobudur and Pawon, all of which are Buddhist temples, are located in one straight line. There is a mutual religious relationship between the three temples, although the exact ritual process is unknown.Continue to a local restaurant for lunch before returning to your resort. We have not included a set meal so you can select what you desire for lunch.After returning to your resort, enjoy the remainder of the day is free at leisure.Overnight at the Amanjiwo

Following breakfast, you will set out for today’s visit; the UNESCO listed World Heritage Site of Prambanan. This ancient Hindu temple compound is one of the biggest in South-East Asia and was built in the 9th century. It is characterized by its tall and pointed temples, typical of Hindu temple architecture and is dedicated to the trinity, God as Creator, Preserver and Destroyer. Your guide will explain the history and symbolism of the temples as you stroll around the compoundFrom here, take a short drive into the hills to Abhayagiri restaurant where you can have lunch while overlooking the Prambanan temple complex. Following lunch visit the nearby traditional village of Bugisan where you will be greeted by friendly local hosts and set off by ox cart to the village.Upon entering in the village, continue on foot to the house of the jamu maker. Jamu is used in daily life by the Javanese and you will often see the ‘Jamu Lady’ wandering around the streets with colorful bottles of herbal medicines that treat a variety of ailments. The host will show you how to make this “beras kencur” jamu and, of course, offer you a glass.Walk to a neighbors’ home nearby where they make a traditional Javanese snack called emping (if not in season you will visit tofu making home industry). On the next stop, see the ladies from the village playing gamelan, traditional ensemble music of Indonesia. The friendly and talented ladies will be happy to let you try your hand and join in the ensemble!The last stop in the village is a traditional house where you will be served tea and local snacks.Return to your resort.Overnight in Amanjiwo

After breakfast drive to Kotagede, which contains the remains of the 16th century capital of the Mataram kingdom. Take a tricycle around an ancient capital to unearth a unique silver heritage, a royal cemetery, and an eclectic mix of Javanese Dutch architecture. Start with touring the maze of narrow alleyways throughout this charming and quaint town. The streets are lined with tiny silversmith workshops where artisans produce silver tea sets, hand beaten bowls, delicate filigree and modern jewelry. Go past the artistically decorated wooden Javanese Joglo dwellings as well as beautiful walled Kalang houses, once homes of wealthy Dutch merchants. Wander into a small bakers shop and smell the aromas as Kembang Waru cookies, introduced by the Dutch colonists, are being baked over an open charcoal fire. After exploring the fresh food and spices on offer at the local market, you walk through small alleyways and enter the house of a local family who will offer you some fresh coffee or tea and a local snack. From here walk a bit further, passing small traditional houses, and next visit the oldest mosque in Yogyakarta, which dates back to 1575. Nearby is the Royal Cemetery, a site of ancient grandeur, where visitors are required to wear traditional Javanese dress to enter. Continue walking through small lanes seeing locals going about their daily lives until the end point where you are picked up by your driver and are brought to a local restaurant for lunch.
