Day 2
Cape Town, South Africa
V&A Hotel Breakfast, Lunch

Full day tour of Robben Island and Cheetah Outreach.

It took 4 million years of evolution for the cheetah to become the exceptional animal it is today and only 100 years for man to place it on the endangered list. Now the fastest land animal in the world is losing its most important race: the race for survival.

At the turn of the 20th century, an estimated 100,000 cheetahs lived throughout Africa and in parts of the Middle East and Central Asia. Today there are just 7,500 cheetahs left and South Africa is home to fewer than 1,000 of these majestic cats.

Cheetah Outreach is an education and community-based programme created to raise awareness of the plight of the cheetah and to campaign for its survival. Founder Annie Beckhelling launched the project in January 1997 with just one hectare of land proved by Spier Wine Estate and two cheetahs.

Your evening is at leisure.

Day 3
Cape Town, South Africa
V&A Hotel Breakfast

08:30 Please meet the representative in the reception area of the hotel and depart on a full day tour to Cape Point.

Hugging the Atlantic coast road we journey past the "bikini beaches" of Clifton and Camps Bay, beautifully located at the base of the towering Twelve Apostles Mountains.

From here we travel over the famous Chapman's Peak Drive to join the sea again at the town of Noordhoek. This historic road, high on the mountainside overlooking the sea, was once considered "impossible to build", but Charl Marais (mining surveyor) rose to the challenge and made it happen at an estimated cost of £20 000 using 700 convict labourers.

Our journey continues to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve at the end of the Cape Peninsula. The reserve, which covers 22000 acres of land, converges in the south at Cape Point, a great pinnacle of rock.

En route to lunch we

visit Boulders, a lovely beach sheltered from the wind and famous for its

colony of endangered Jackass Penguins on the coast of False Bay near Simon's

Town. Pass through Simon's

Town, which was the Royal Navy's main base in the south Atlantic from 1815

until 1957 and has the feel of a small English seaside village with steep

narrow streets and cobbled alleyways.

Travel back towards Cape Town passing through the attractive, up-market suburb of Constantia, the cradle of the South African wine industry boasting famous estates like Klein Constantia.

At the tip of the Cape Peninsula 60 km south-west of Cape Town, lies Cape Point, a nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park; a declared Natural World Heritage Site. Encompassing 7 750 hectares of rich and varied flora and fauna; abounding with buck, baboons and Cape Mountain Zebra as well as over 250 species of birds, Cape Point is a nature enthusiast paradise.

Day 4
Cape Town, South Africa
V&A Hotel Breakfast, Lunch

09:00 Please meet the representative in the reception area of the hotel and depart on your full day tour of the Cape Winelands set below the dramatic range of mountains known as the "Hottentots Holland".

Whitewashed homesteads nestling under avenues of oaks, rolling green hills covered with wild flowers, fertile valleys alive with the sounds of surging streams, restaurants with French names and Dutch flavours… such is the setting of the Winelands, home of some of the world's finest wines and Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa after Cape Town.

The quaint Huguenot village of Franschhoek ("French Corner") is our setting for lunch. The area was originally known as Olifants Hoek ("Elephant's Corner") after elephants took to calving in the sheltered valley with its plentiful supply of food and water.

We then travel across country to the historic town of Paarl ("Pearl") passing the Victor Verster Prison from where former President Nelson Mandela was released in 1990.

Then we head for our final winetasting and cellar tour of the day at the beautiful Plaisir de Merle estate near the village of Simondium.

The theme of the Huguenot Museum in Franschhoek is the history of the Huguenots before and after their arrival at the Cape of Good Hope.

Your evening is at leisure.

Her 1,510 square kilometers of open savannah, woodlands and tree-lined rivers creates an eco-system which supports huge numbers of bird and mammal species. The western border of the park is the spectacular Siria Escarpment, and together with the acacia dotted plains, creates scenery of stunning beauty. Lion are found in abundance throughout the park as are elephant, giraffe, a variety of gazelle species and zebra. Cheetah and leopard are also regularly seen and, if lucky, you may also find rhino. Game viewing is never dull in the Mara, and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings: a pride of lion stalking their prey; a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an acacia tree; male wildebeest sparring to attract females into their harem; or even a herd of elephant protecting their young from opportunistic predators.

Abercrombie & Kent Kenya, especially Fiona and Benton, ensured that our trip to Kenya was an unforgettable experience.  My sister and I went to Kenya to visit animal orphanages. Abercrombie & Kent Kenya met us at the Nairobi airport and made the entire trip a seamless experience.   Abercrombie & Kent Kenya staff drove us to our destinations, took us on game drives and delivered us to our flights. Abercrombie & Kent Kenya's staff brought a wealth of information including knowledge about the animals, history and culture.  I would not hesitate to recommend Abercrombie & Kent Kenya.  The company and staff ensured that our trip was amazing.

A&K put together, along with my Travel Advisor, a custom 8 week long tour of Africa for me involving 8 countries. It was a great trip. It covered everything I had wanted to see and more, providing great variety. The travel arrangements all worked smoothly, The accommodations, guides, excursions provided were all first rate. I've used A&K on many trips before. This was probably the most complicated one they have organized for me and I am delighted with how smoothly it went.
