Explore the temples and unravel the mysteries behind Borobudur, Mendut, Pawon and Prambanan with an expert archaeologist as your guide.
After breakfast your driver and the archaeologist will take you to explore the awe inspiring UNESCO World Heritage Site of Borobudur. The colossal Buddhist monument was built by hand from thousands of volcanic and river stone blocks during the 8th and 9th centuries. Some 432 serene faced Buddha images stare out over the surrounding rice fields and distant mountains.
Nearby is the exquisite Mendut Temple, even older than Borobudur. Here, you can see three magnificent and well preserved carved stone statues set inside the pyramid shaped temple.
At Pawon Temple admire the relief panels and beautiful architecture of this small and solitary Javanese temple.
After lunch in a restaurant overlooking the beautiful rice terraces, continue on to Prambanan, widely regarded as the most beautiful and graceful Hindu temple in Indonesia. It consists of many temples with sharp, jaggedly sculpted towers, the tallest of which rises a staggering 47 metres into the sky.
Throughout the tour, your guide will give you an insiders look into the fascinating history, legends and symbolism of the temples.
