Explore Prambanan temple, make a ride on an ox-cart, meet a Jamu maker, play traditional instruments, and enjoy a sunset dinner overlooking ancient temples.
In the afternoon your driver and guide will collect you from your hotel and drive to the 9th century Prambanan, widely regarded as the most beautiful and graceful Hindu temple in Indonesia. This UNESCO World Heritage Site consists of many temples with sharp, jaggedly sculpted towers, the tallest of which rises a staggering 47 metres into the sky. As you walk, your specialist tour guide will take you through the fascinating history, legends and symbolism behind these temples.
The next visit is to the nearby traditional village of Bugisan where your friendly local hosts will pick you up by ox-cart and bring you to their village passing the intriguing Plaosan temple complex. You are welcomed in a traditional house for a refreshing tea and some local snacks before continuing by ox-cart to the next stop.
Call in at the house of the Jamu maker and see how the colourful bottles of herbal medicines are concocted. You can even try a glass of the healing drink to treat your ailments! Watch how the Javanese snack called ‘emping’ is made and try your hand at playing the gamelan, a traditional Indonesian instrument, together with the ladies of the village.
To end the tour, the driver will take you to Abhayagiri Restaurant. Sip a fruity cocktail while watching the sun set over Prambanan with Mount Merapi as the backdrop. This is followed by a delicious Indonesian set dinner.
