Willie Roberts and his wife Sue set up Sirikoi on Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Willie knows everything about the bush and is a great raconteur about his time living in the Mara and working on anti-poaching there in the 1990s. This is a great camp in which to listen and learn and being on Lewa, it has fabulous wildlife.

Four beautifully appointed tents, each with Victorian baths, overlook the well-watered lawn which attracts the grazing animals. There are also two standard tents and a secluded two bedroom cottage which is situated in a private corner of the camp near the wetlands where elephant and buffalo are regular visitors. In 2010, the three-bed roomed Sirikoi house became the lodge's latest opening. Two bedrooms were built in one unit whilst the master bedroom was a unit on its own with a large sitting and dining room separating them.

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors fold open to reveal magnificent Mara River views and the interiors have been finished with elegant nature-inspired furnishings to create an ever-present sense of being connected to the great outdoors. Sumptuous king-sized beds, with overhead fans and a daybed on the deck invite you to relax inside or out, while the sprawling lower lounge area offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Three of the new suites feature an extra bedroom located off the open plan bathroom, perfect for families with young children. The unfaltering attention to detail extends to fully stocked mini-fridges, specially commissioned African art and glamorous en suites. Refined open plan marble- and slate-accented bathrooms feature a generous tub, double vanity and a rain shower with wall to ceiling glass windows ensuring you can enjoy the view wherever you are in the suite.

The soothing interiors of the main lodge are an extension of the surrounding wilderness as a Kenyan Greenheart tree extends through the centre. Dramatic glass doors open out from the lounge to the terrace. Here, faded indigo rugs and elegant Edison-bulb pendant lights gently illuminate the decking without competing with the natural ambiance. The inviting new fire pit is encircled by deckchairs, with each seat promising river views. Dine on the deck of the main lodge and overlook the river's resident hippos.

Day 5
Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
Sanctuary Olonana Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6
Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya
Sanctuary Olonana Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

There is an option of viewing game aloft a hot air balloon.

As the balloon is inflated against the first rays of sunrise your pilot will go through safety procedures. It’s then time to climb aboard. Once aloft, the balloon floats gently over the plains, giving a bird’s eye view of the game below as the sun creeps slowly over the horizon. Spread beneath you is a panorama of Africa – elephants looking improbably small; giraffe browsing amongst the treetops; antelope grazing; a pair of lionesses stalking a herd of wildebeest; an eagle guarding his eerie; and cheetah glancing up as the shadow of the huge balloon crosses their paths. After around one hour the balloon lands and nearby breakfast is already being prepared. The smells of bacon, sausages and eggs drift on the breeze as you begin breakfast with platefuls of exotic Kenyan fruits and homemade pastries and, of course, glasses of bubbly to toast your flight in a tradition initiated by the Montgolfier brothers.

The spacious tents are equipped with king size beds and en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and safari showers. The open camp fire provides the perfect location in which to swap stories and recount the events of the day.

For over 20 years, the area of Soit Le Motonyi was closed to tourism and reserved as a cheetah conservation and breeding program. As a result of this program, the area now features the highest density of cheetah in East Africa, along with high numbers of lion and leopard, allowing for excellent year round game viewing. Between November and May, the camp is well positioned to access the vast herds of the annual Migration as they pass through Soit Le Motonyi and gather on the plains to the south west of Namiri Plains.

Day 8
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Namiri Plains Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Full day game drives in Namiri.

One of the world's last great wildlife refuges, the Serengeti, stretches between the Ngorongoro Highlands and Lake Victoria. The name comes from the Maasai word siringet, meaning "endless plains". The Serengeti's 14,763 square kms contains about three million large animals, many of them taking part in seasonal migrations, unparalleled in nature.

Every year, triggered by the rains, 1.3 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson's gazelle gather to undertake the long trek to new grazing lands. The migration of the herbivores roughly defines the boundaries of Serengeti National Park, which is the central zone of the Serengeti ecosystem, an area that also takes in Kenya's Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Maswa Game Reserve in the west.

Ngorongoro Crater is a deep, volcanic crater and the largest unbroken caldera in the world. About 20kms across, 600 meters deep and 300 sq kms in area, the Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder. Within the crater rim large herds of zebra and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Just outside the crater's ridge, tall Maasai herd their cattle and goats over green pastures living alongside the wildlife as they have for centuries.

The Masai are semi nomadic people and one of the most recognisable tribes in East Africa with their red shukas and elaborate beading. Abercrombie & Kent Kenya, especially Fiona and Benton, ensured that our trip to Kenya was an unforgettable experience.  My sister and I went to Kenya to visit animal orphanages. Abercrombie & Kent Kenya met us at the Nairobi airport and made the entire trip a seamless experience.   Abercrombie & Kent Kenya staff drove us to our destinations, took us on game drives and delivered us to our flights. Abercrombie & Kent Kenya's staff brought a wealth of information including knowledge about the animals, history and culture.  I would not hesitate to recommend Abercrombie & Kent Kenya.  The company and staff ensured that our trip was amazing.

A&K put together, along with my Travel Advisor, a custom 8 week long tour of Africa for me involving 8 countries. It was a great trip. It covered everything I had wanted to see and more, providing great variety. The travel arrangements all worked smoothly, The accommodations, guides, excursions provided were all first rate. I've used A&K on many trips before. This was probably the most complicated one they have organized for me and I am delighted with how smoothly it went.
