Arrive Beijing
Centrally Located Hotel In Beijing None
Upon arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport, please proceed to the luggage area to claim your check-in bags. A local representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel of choice.
Beijing, the capital of China, lies just south of the rim of the Central Asian Steppes and is separated from the Gobi Desert by a green chain of mountains, over which The Great Wall runs. Modern Beijing lies on the site of countless human settlements that date back half a million years. Homo erectus Pekinensis, better known as Peking man was discovered just outside the city in 1929. It is China's second largest city in terms of population and the largest in administrative territory. The name Beijing - or Northern Capital - is a modern term by Chinese standards. It first became a capital in the Jin Dynasty (1115-1234), but it experienced its first phase of grandiose city planning in the Yuan Dynasty under the rule of the Mongol emperor, Kublai Khan, who made the city his winter capital in the late 13th century. Little of it remains in today's Beijing. Most of what the visitor sees today dates from either the Ming or later Qing dynasties. Huge concrete tower blocks have mushroomed and construction sites are everywhere. Bicycles are still the main mode of transportation but taxis, cars, and buses jam the city streets.

Temple of Heaven Martial Arts & Dance Visit
Firstly, you will see local residents do morning exercise there, you would be surprised by the number of people and the variety of exercises they do. Elder people might be practicing their slow-motion Tai Qi. Young ones might be practicing their kung fu fighting or sword fighting. Ladies could be doing some traditional dances.
The Temple of Heaven is a sequence of temples and altars set in a park. Twice a year during imperial times, the emperor and a magnificent procession of some 1,000 eunuchs, courtiers, and ministers would leave the Forbidden City for the temple. At the winter solstice, he expressed thanks for the previous harvest, and on the 15th day of the first month of the lunar year, he begged the gods of sun and moon, clouds and rain, and thunder and lightening to bless the coming harvest. Chinese philosophers considered heaven the source of harmony and spiritual authority. The architecture reflects that sense of order; the northern wall of the complex is curved in a half circle to symbolize heaven, and the southern wall of the complex is built as a square to symbolize earth.
Old Beijing Noodles Lunch
Beijing Noodles (Zhujiangmian) with Soybean Sauce is a treat not to be missed. Although customarily made from diced pork fried in a thick brown bean sauce, most restaurants now just use ground pork. The noodles should be hand rolled. Delicious and filling for a snack or a meal, this dish is a favorite in Beijing homes.
Beijing City Tour + The Forbidden City
The entire complex consists of 8,706 rooms in which an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people lived including 3,000 eunuchs, as well as maids and concubines, all within 170 acres. Behind walls more than 30 feet high and within the 160-foot moat, complex rules and rituals dictated life in the Imperial Palace. Strictly off-limits to Chinese ordinary people (hence the name) the gates today lead to a fascinating display of Chinese history in what is probably the best-preserved site of Classical Chinese architecture. On the north side of the square is Tiananmen Gate (the Rostrum). It was from the balcony of the Rostrum on October 1, 1949 where Mao Zedong, chairman of the Communist Party, proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Markets Tour + Donghuamen Night Food Street Visit
If you ramble along Wangfujing Street in the evening during your Beijing Travel, it is advisable to visit its neighbouring Wangfujing Night Food Street. Actually Wangfujing Night Food Street is formally called “Donghuamen Night Food Street”, which is located on Donganmen Street linked to the west of the crossroad at the northern tip of Wangfujing Pedestrian Street.
Peking Duck Dinner
Quanjude Restaurant enjoys a high reputation among domestic and overseas customers for its Beijing roast duck. They have developed their own technique and are famous for outstanding quality. Fangzhuang branch is located beside the Temple of Heaven. The Wangfujing branch was established in 1959. The well-known All-Duck Banquet is headed by Quanjude roast duck and supported by over 400 dishes with Quanjude characteristic flavor. Later transfer back to your hotel.
Day 3
Beijing, China

The Great Wall Mutianyu Tour + Lunch
Despite the hundreds of buses that visit daily, the Great Wall at Mutianyu is not as crowded as the nearby Badaling or Juyongguan sections of the Wall. Mutianyu's 1 mile stretch of the Wall allows you to walk for more than an hour as you explore 22 watchtowers and the valley on both sides of the Wall. In late afternoon, or in poor weather, you often might find yourself alone with only the sound of the wind to keep you company. Travel back in time and see the Wall as it was when it was built hundreds of years ago. Lunch at the Schoolhouse.
Rickshaw Hutong Tour + Local Family Visit
Beijing's Hutongs are alleyways and houses of traditional Beijing. Riding in a pedicab through this area is like taking a step back in time. In Imperial days, everyone lived around the Imperial City in low-rise courtyard style houses – often with the whole extended family living in one courtyard compound. Although many have been torn down to make way for high-rise office and apartment buildings, those remaining offer a glimpse of old Beijing. Family homes, markets, shops, schools and all manners of city life can seen here at street level.
Evening free at leisure and dinner on your own.
Day 4

Summer Palace Tour + Lunch
The Summer Palace (Chinese Pinyin: Yí Hé Yuán), northwest of Beijing, is said to be the best preserved imperial garden in the world, and the largest of its kind still in existence in China. It is only a short drive (15 km) from central Beijing but seems like another world. The Summer Palace was initially built in 1750 by Emperor Qianglong. The architectural style of Summer Palace is to make others believe it is artificial. It covers an area of 230,000 square feet and holds over 3,000 houses. In 1860 and 1900 it was destroyed by invaders and in 1912 it was rebuilt by the Government of Qing Dynasty. In 1924, it began to be open to tourists. The Summer Palace is one of the loveliest spots in Beijing. Not all the buildings are open to the public, but many are, and the others continue to enhance the park with their design and decoration, nestled into the landscape. Enjoy lunch at a local Chinese restaurant.
Transfer to Beijing West Railway Station and take high speed train to Xian.
Unlock the secrets of China's ancient civilizations in a city that countless emperors once called home. See the rows upon rows of Terracotta Warriors with your own eyes, and walk along the glass floors of the Hanyang Tombs to see the treasures archaeologists have unearthed below.
Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel.

Terracotta Warriors Tour + Lunch
Uncovered in 1974 by peasants digging a well, the terracotta warriors and Xian's greatest and most important attraction. The first emperor of the Qin Dynast, Qin Shi Huangdi, ordered the making of the warriors. During his reign, he undertook military programs to the far corners of the known world. The estimated 8,000 terracotta soldiers are a testament to his power and megalomania. In the main and most impressive vault, the figures are arranged in typical battle formation in 11 columns comprised of officers, soldiers holding spears and swords and others steering horse-drawn chariots. Enjoy lunch at a local Chinese restaurant.
Xian Old City Wall Tour
This is the most complete city wall that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. After the extension, the wall now stands 40 feet tall, 40-46 feet wide at the top and 50-60 feet thick at the bottom. It covers 8.5 miles in length with a deep moat surrounding it. Every 400 feet, there is a rampart which extends out from the main wall. All together, there are 98 ramparts on the wall, which were built to defend against the enemy climbing up the wall. Each rampart has a sentry building, in which the soldiers could protect the entire wall without exposing themselves to the enemy.
Walk through the Muslim Quarter
For over 1,300 years, Muslims have been an integral part of daily life in Xian at the eastern end of the Silk Road, with the city's Hui community tracing their roots back to Persian and Arabic traders. After dinner, we go for a stroll with our guide through the Muslim Quarter, where the way of life derives as much from the ancient cultures of Central Asia as it does from mainland China. The Great Mosque in Xian is one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved Islamic mosques in China.According to historical records engraved on a stone tablet inside, this mosque was built in 742 during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
Evening free at leisure and dinner on your own.

It is the most intact royal mausoleum and the most important tangible document in the research of burial customs and civilization from this dynasty ever discovered. Emperor Jing 's reign, along with that of his father Emperor Wen, known as the Rule of Wen and Jing (180 BC-141 BC), was considered to be one of the golden ages in Chinese history.
Transfer to Xian Airport.
Take flight to Lijiang.
The Old Town of Lijiang, which is perfectly adapted to the uneven topography of this key commercial and strategic site, has retained a historic townscape of high quality and authenticity. Its architecture is noteworthy for the blending of elements from several cultures that have come together over many centuries. Lijiang also possesses an ancient water-supply system of great complexity and ingenuity that still functions effectively today. The whole county of Lijiang has about 1.2 million people in area of about 21,200 square kilometers. The city of Lijiang has about a half million people.
Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. Evening free at leisure and dinner on your own.

Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Cable Car + Spruce Forest
Morning walking through the Spruce Plank Roadway, a beautiful and large pastureland came into your eyes at the end of the primitive forests, and you are suddenly enlightened. This is the Spruce Meadow with an area of 1000 square meters. It’s a natural grazing land in high mountains, and the second snow mountain meadow you come across. Green is everywhere, spreading its way till to the edge of the forests. Spruce forests are densely around the four sides of the meadow, looking like a skirt edged with green.
Impression Lijiang Show
Impression Lijiang is a magnificent outdoor singing and dancing performance demonstrating the tradition and lifestyle of the local ethnic people. It is another creation of famous Chinese director Zhang Yimou. The show is innovatively staged in the morning and afternoon, at 3,100 meters (10,100 feet) above sea level with Jade Snow Mountain as the breathtaking backdrop.
Lunch enjoy local flavor at local Chinese restaurant.
Famous Frescos + Local Embroidery in Baisha
Baisha Old Town is one of the oldest towns in Lijiang. It is the earliest settlement of the Naxi people and is the birthplace of "Tusi", chief of the Mu clan. In the town there are many ancient buildings built during the Ming Dynasty, including Dabaoji Palace, Liuli Temple, and Wenchang Palace. The 44 pieces of Baisha frescos were drawn in the early Ming Dynasty. Most of the paintings are about religious stories of Taoism, Buddhism, and Tibetan Buddhism. The murals embodies the artistic characteristics of the Naxi, Tibetan, Han and Bai ethnic groups. Among them the paintings about Kwan-yin and Sakyamuni are the most famous ones. Now Baisha Frescos, also known as Lijing Frescos have become precious data for the study of China's history of arts and religions.
Shuhe Villages Tour
Shuhe Ancient Town is the earliest habitation of the Naxi ancestors. It is also an important and well-preserved post of the Ancient Tea Horse Route, an international trade route in Southwest China that uses the horse as its main vehicle. The town shows multiple cultural landscapes, including unique folk customs, historical relics and beautiful natural scenery. Visitors can experience the simple and unsophisticated Naxi customs in the town.

Lijiang Ancient Town Tour
In 1997, three ancient districts of the Lijiang urban area were included on the UNESCO World Heritage List because they are in a dramatic landscape where the Han and Naxi cultures blended to “produce an urban landscape of outstanding quality.” The UNESCO description says that Lijiang was a key commercial and strategic site and that the “architecture is noteworthy for the blending of elements from several cultures that have come together over many centuries.” They also noted that “Lijiang also possesses an ancient water-supply system of great complexity and ingenuity that still functions effectively today.”
Black Dragon Pool Tour
As the water is as green and lucid as jade, the pond is also entitled "Yuquan" or Jade Fountain. On the bank of the pond willows hang their withes like silk thread. One can see arbours and pavilions beside the pond, temples hidden in the trees and variegated flowers found everywhere. "A tree of cherry blossom accompanies a tree of willow, while a rose climbs to the tip of one of a tree's twigs." That is how the calm and exquisite view of the place is described. Longshen Pavilion on the east side of the park was built in the second year of the Qianglong era of the Qing Dynasty. In its five compounds are grown over 500 kinds of flowers, their grace and beauty all defy description. It is therefore praised thus: "At Yuchuan the flowers of the four seasons are like embroidered brocade". Emperor Jiaqing and Emperor Guanxu conferred on it royal honours for its famed excellence.
Shamanistic Culture Tour
Founded in 1984, Dongba Culture Museum situates on the north side of Black Dragon Pool, a famous scenic spot around Lijiang City. It is the biggest cultural relic museum for Dongba.

Xizhou Village Market Visit
One of the 25 or so minority groups in Yunnan province is the Bai people. The history of this small minority is very interesting. The little town of Xizhou (the name means “happy town”) is a now a quiet town with a population of about 32,000 people. It is 18 kilometers north of the ancient city of Dali. Though now it is surrounded by rice paddies and is mainly known for the well preserved Bai traditional houses, many times it has been important in Chinese history.
Dali Zhouchen Bandhnu
It is also known as plangi or tied colorful cloth and is mainly produced in Zhouchen of Dali, Dacang and Miaojie of Weishan. Three Pagodas Tour
The Three Pagodas of Dali are famous in China for their size, beauty, and antiquity, and for their preservation. The central one is more than 1,100 years old and is one of the tallest pagodas ever built in China. These pagodas are situated between Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, about 1.5 kilometers (.9 of a mile) northwest from the ancient city of Dali, so a walk to the temple would be a good excursion. The Three Pagodas are a highlight of a trip to Dali.
Erhai Lake Tour
This amazing lake lies next to the amazing historic sites in the Dali valley and the natural scenery and good hiking trails on Cangshan Mountain. The whole region is full of interesting and beautiful sites. The easy access to beautiful and quiet places to camp, ride horses, ride bikes and hike in high mountains is unusual in China. You can experience ethnic cultures in this area as well. The ancient city of Dali and the other historic sites lie west of Erhai Lake. The local people feel that this big lake with its clear water and its reflections of land and sky as well as the entire region are unusually beautiful, and it is another highlight of a visit to Yunnan Province.
Dali Ancient Town Tour
The ancient city of Dali is one of Yunnan's most popular tourist destinations. It has historic sites, ancient buildings and temples, nearby beautiful Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, local crafts, and the "Foreigners' Street" with Western-style restaurants and bars and English-speaking business owners. Tiger Leaping Gorge Visit
Tiger Leaping Gorge is one of the deepest gorges on the planet, and it has the best hiking trail in the Lijiang area. The scenery is spectacular. Foreign backpackers started hiking in the area in the 1980s. Inns and guesthouses have been built along the trail for hikers. The Yangtze Riverin the canyon isn’t navigable. Tourists can tour the gorge area on tour buses along a road at the bottom of the canyon that follows the course of the river. This tour road is very popular with Chinese tourists. The people who walk the High Trail above the road are mainly foreigners. If you hike the path, you’ll find some solitude because you may meet only a few groups of hikers all day. Local Naxi people also use the trails. Whether you visit on a tour bus or hike, you can see some spectacular sights.
Continue to Zhongdian (Shangri-La).
What is still locally known as Zhongdian (or, in Tibetan, Gyeltang) was officially changed to Shangri-La in 2001. At nearly 10,000ft in elevation, Zhongdian swirls with the smell of wood and coal smoke permeating its cold, dry air. Here, ruddy-faced Tibetans stand out from the Han Chinese, as does their architecture: square, three-storey homes with bright scrollwork trimming them. Tea is mixed with yak butter for a high-calorie drink in this shivery climate.

Euroscope provided our tours on a recent trip to London/Paris. We were picked up at our hotel at 8:45, instead of 8 am and the driver left us in Montemarte at 11:30. The wine and cheese "tasting" was a joke. Same with the Louvre Museum tour. It was supposed to be from 5:30 to 8:30. We were picked up at 5:15 pm but didn't get into the museum until around 6:30. The tour ended exactly at 8:30. The guide was fine. We are hoping for a partial refund for these 2 tours.

Private tour to Siena & home winery with lunch was awesome. Can't rave enough about 8-day Florence stay including Hotel Bernini. Second week was totally different and not as memorable, but fascinating nonetheless: toured Bordeaux wine area on Viking River "cruise" which was more floating hotel than cruise (in comparison, 15-day cruise Amsterdam to Budapest on Viking Braggi last year was awesome!). Private tour of Hine Cognac house in Jarnac was outstanding as was trip to Saint Emilion to view top wineries. Final 3 days were in Paris (superb hotel: Grand Hotel du Palais Royal). Very private gourmet dinner cruise on Don Juan II (Yachts de Paris) was grand & pricey, but well worth it for scenic tour & luxury. Private guided driving tour of Normandy to pay our respects (14 hrs - top guide again) was excellent

They were sent to the wrong address. The hotels were acceptable. The rail travel was substandard even though we supposedly had first class seats. The seating was open so that didn't help and the air conditioning was not working on two of the trains. The rental cars were in the wrong driver's name which caused problems and caused us to have to pay extra for another driver. We were not able to use one of our prepaid train tickets due to our flight being redirected to Rome rather than Milan. That was not Avanti's fault but none the less a problem.

Transfers from the port to hotel and hotel to airport were exceptional. Very well done. Tours in Rio were mixed. We weren't expecting full busloads of tourists and in one case the guide was trying to give the tour in four languages making it very difficult to align what we were seeing to his description. A problem with one bus lacking air conditioning was fixed quickly by getting a replacement bus. Seeing Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf were worth the trip.

Even when the flight of one person in our group got delayed by five plus hours, Avanti was on the job. We called our travel agent, Izumi Ogawa at Vision Travel, and even got her out of bed in the middle of the night! We were worried that the the transfer service, arranged by Izumi through Avanti, wouldn't be there when the delayed flight arrived. But we worried for nothing. Izumi assured us that Avanti keeps track of things like delayed flights and would be there for the pick up. She was absolutely right. The transfer service was there to meet the delayed flight and the last person in our group enjoyed an excellent ride in a luxurious van to our hotel. Many thanks to Izumi and Avanti.

Barcelona tour was great!

By: TGlide

Our Avanti Barcelona Sightseeing Tour with Lunch was exciting. This tour was full of all things Barcelona! We definitely feel like we got the best highlights of this wonderful city. Our tour was actually divided into 2 tours with lunch in between the tours. Nothing on our voucher indicated this and it would have been nice to know so we would have known more how our day was structured. Our first tour guide Amalia, was very knowledgeable, bubbly and charasmatic! She was concerned about everyone on the tour and wanted us to have an enjoyable tour. We even went on a tram ride with a view overlooking Barcelona, an unexpected surprise. The afternoon tour guide was not as personable but was sufficient. Our tours consisted of bus transportation and walking tours. The main negative on this tour was that it ended in the middle of a busy street in Barcelona and we were not transported back to our Wamos tour location that we left from. We were all just left to find our way in a Foreign city!

We have used Avanti services in the past and been very satisfied. We recently use Avanti services when we traveled to Florence, Italy and Athens, Greece. The semi-private walking tour we booked in Florence was one of the best we've ever had. The package that was put together for us was wonderful. We experienced everything that we wanted to and definitely got every penny out of our trip. We stayed in 2 5-Star and 1 4-Star hotel/resort for much less than we would have expected and they were all in very beautiful and convenient locations. Our taxi/ferry/travel schedule was put together very well and easy to understand. The tours that we had were great experiences, really fun and helped us immerse ourselves more into the local culture and history. The only downside was that we were told that we would have a gift in the room included in the last hotel and that gift was not there - and the hotel did not know anything about it. Considering that was the only thing that was wrong with the trip though, it was pretty easy to overlook. It was still a very wonderful trip and we would definitely recommend Avanti Destinations to other travelers.

This is our second trip that our Advisor, Izumi Ogawa, used Avanti Destinations. And just like the last time, Avanti used top notch partners to execute their well thought out plans. And it doesn't seem to matter what part of the world they are focusing on. Our first experience with them was a trip to Europe and this time, on the opposite side of the globe, Indochina. From Italy, Switzerland, and France the first time to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos this time. It didn't faze them even a little bit. They only seem to have one speed...maximum performance! Even in a remote area like Luang Prabang, they provided a well spoken and knowledgeable guide to usher us for a full day on two wonderful tours...Tham Pak Ou Cave and Kuang Si Waterfalls. In the past we have been subjected to tour guides that were supposedly speaking English, but we weren't entirely sure. Not with the partners that work with Avanti. Not only very understandable but also personable and just plain nice. Great job Avanti.

As a whole the tours were fine. Well planned and very professional. I would however NEVER recommend the hop on/ hop off bus in London. London is so crowded we basically just sat in traffic 1/2 of our first of two days with a hop on/off pass. The narration of the "City Tours" bus left much to be desired. They just basically said "here is Buckingham Palace" no details or history etc. We finally decided to take the subway ourself and saw much more of London. People would be much better served by just buying an oyster pass and traveling on their own. The hop on/off tour in Edinbrugh was much better as that is not a crowded city and the tour was much more organized.

The second one apparently would have had our seats and been faster but it was very unclear. Also we LOVED the villa, but half way through our time there the Padrone showed up and was loud and rude and the wonderful caretaker disappeared when he was there and we had no recourse. ruined 2 days. had no way to get any assistance.

The San Ignacio Hotel was the most luxurious, and was a beautiful setting. In addition, the tours from there were the best. We were very pleased with Avanti and the tour planned for us on the "Outlander" trip to Scotland. We started in Edinburgh and immediately began using the passes that were provided including the Bus Tour, Edinburgh Castle, the awesome Tea Room, and the Edinburgh Museum. I really thought both were great and the Heritage Pass was a great "bang for the buck" since we were able to use it in many places that were on the tour. The hotel accommodations were quite good for the most part. We were a bit let down with the hotel in Edinburgh but I believe that it would be very difficult to find an affordable hotel so close to the tourist sites there so I personally found the hotel OK especially with the nice breakfast. All the other places we visited and hotels were great and really put us in the mood to be in Scotland, seeing the amazing Scottish Highlands while also experiencing the remarkable history including the story of the Jacobites and the feeling of the Outlander movie. The man at the desk made a phone call and then said I know where your reservation and luggage are. They were at the Hotel Ferramentierro- across town! After a very long day of hiking, we were not happy to have to hike across the city to a different hotel. The hotel was fine as we were the accommodations and restaurant.
