Walk in the steps of some of Greece’s illustrious ancestors and enjoy an extraordinary tour around the island of Delos, one of the most historically significant sites in Greece. Situated near Mykonos, the island is renowned as the mythical birthplace of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis, and its significant archaeological discoveries.
After meeting on the Mykonos town pier, your fascinating outing begins with a short boat ride over to Delos and from there, your private guide will give you a comprehensive guided tour of the island and its distinctive landmarks. You will see the small sacred lake (now drained) and the ancient Agora, once a center of religious, political and commercial life.
You will be given interesting facts about the Terrace of the Lions, an imposing series of lions dedicated to Apollo by the people of Naxos shortly before 600 BC and visit the ruined marble theater, built between 314 - 250 BC. Also on your tour, you will see the Temple of the Delians and several other ruins of great interest including several market squares, colossal statues and other ancient living quarters.
It is highly recommended to wear shoes with rubber soles when visiting any archaeological site in Greece. Expect uneven surfaces in Delos.
