In the surrounding of Amsterdam there are many beautiful and typical Dutch villages which are worth visiting. During this tour we first visit Marken, a former island, now connected to the mainland by a dike. A unique place to visit with elevated houses on pillars, traditional green painted houses and folkloristic customs and customes. Walk along the small bridges and little alleys and admire the historic houses.
Continue to Monnickendam. This town is a former fisherman’s village and has an interesting history. During the city walk you will see the beautiful City Hall and ‘De Waag’ a place where they used to weigh the ship’s cargo coming in from overseas. Try some Dutch fish specialties: ‘gerookte paling’ (smoked eel) or herring.
Proceed to Broek in Waterland. Here you will stop for a refreshment, but not before you have seen the characteristic wooden houses this village proudly owns. Famous people like the French philosopher Victor Hugo, the emperor Alexander of Russia and Napoleon visited this small village. (4 hours)
