Itinerary

DAY LOCATION(S) HOTEL MEALS DESCRIPTION
Day 1
Khan Khentii, Mongolia
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Ger Camp Dinner

Arrive in Mongolia’s largest city and capital and transfer to the Upper Tuul River Valley via a three-hour car ride. The area is part of the Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area, in the east of the country, an area created by the country’s government for wildlife preservation. If time allows, we’ll stop at the Gandan Lamasery - Mongolia’s most vibrant monastery. The drive takes you through a scenic steppe valley and verdant forests. Take in the beauty of Mongolian wildflowers, which grow without abandon in the summer months. Yak carts will be used to carry your luggage during the walk to Jalman Meadows Ger Camp on the Upper Tuul River.

Day 2
Khan Khentii, Mongolia
Ger Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Spend today exploring your new surroundings. You may choose to do so on foot, horseback, or on a Russian catarafts supplied by the camp - these are rafts commonly used as a fishing platform, and are ideal for rafting over rougher water. Hike through the Hentii Mountains, where larch and birch forests grow freely. Return tonight to relax in the comfort of your traditional Ger tent.

Day 3
Khan Khentii, Mongolia
Ger Camp Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Continue exploring the thrilling wilderness of the Khan Khentii protected area today. Get up close and personal with the herdsmen in the southern areas, who follow a traditional lifestyle that’s remained unchanged for centuries. The northern area’s uninhabited back country is home to wolves, wild boar, moose, red deer, marmots, and gazelle: see how many you can spot.

Day 4
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
None None

Check out of your Ger camp and head back to your hotel in Ulaanbaatar, a 3 1/2 hour drive. Spend the day exploring Ulaanbaatar, learning about its long history at its many monasteries and museums. Spend a final night in Mongolia today - you’ll depart tomorrow for your onward journey.
