Located in China's far west, Tibet is a sacred land of monasteries, crimson-robed monks and soaring white mountains. Experience how Tibetan Buddhism permeates nearly every aspect of life in this region by stopping by university monasteries, an old Tibetan pharmacy, and golden roofed temples.

Itinerary

Day 1
Lhasa, China

Hotel: Shangri-La/Kyichu
Meals: Lunch, Dinner

- Upon arriving at Gonggar Airport, your WildChina guide will meet you in the arrival hall with your chauffeur and private vehicle ready to take you to your hotel for check-in

- Spend the day at your leisure acclimatizing to the high elevations (3,200m to be exact) or depending on energy levels, follow along the Barkhor pilgrimage route to see prayer wheels being spun, pilgrims prostrating, and hear sutras being chanted

Day 2
Lhasa, China

Hotel: Shangri-La/Kyichu Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

- Visit the gilded Jokhang Temple, which attracts a large number of pilgrims due to it being considered the most sacred temple in Tibet

- Learn about Tibetan medicine, an ancient form of medicine based on Buddha’s teachings, by stopping by an old Tibetan pharmacy

- Visit a lively nunnery in Barkhor- Make your way along the Barkhor Street pilgrimage route- Explore Potala Palace, Tibet’s defining religious landmark, a grand masterpiece of white, crimson

and gold famed for being the former residence of the Dalai Lama

Day 3
Lhasa, China

Hotel: Shangri-La/Kyichu Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

- Be greeted by the phrase “om mani padme hum” as you visit the lesser-known Pabongka Monastery - Hike downhill to Chupsang Nunnery, surrounded by green fields and home to 80 red-robed nuns

- Explore Sera Monastery, one of Tibet’s top university monasteries- Depending on availability, make your own prayer flag at Sera’s printing center and witness monks animatedly debate Buddhist philosophy in the courtyard

- If interested, learn about thangka painting or visit local NGOs

Day 4
Gyantse, China

Yamdrok Tso, China

Lhasa, China

Hotel: Local Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

- Drive to Gyantse (270km), following the shores of the holy Yamdrok Lake (4,488m), surrounded on all sides by snowy peaks

- Pass through high passes (above 5,000m) in the Nyochen Kansang Mountains

- Arrive in Gyantse (3,950m)

Day 5
Shigatse, China

Gyantse, China

Hotel: Local Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

- Visit Palkhor Monastery and the famous Kumbum Stupa, built over eight levels housing 75 chapels adorned with murals revered by art scholars around the world

- Afterwards, drive to Shigatse  (90km)

- Admire the massive complex of golden roofed buildings and traditional white walls that is Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, seat of the Panchen Lama (the second highest ranked Lama)

- If time permits, walk along the pilgrimage route

Day 6
Lhasa, China

Shigatse, China

Hotel: Shangri-La/Kyichu Hotel

- Spend the morning at your own leisure and visit local markets- Your WildChina team will take you back to Lhasa- Upon arriving at Lhasa, check into your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at your own

leisure

Day 7
Lhasa, China

- Your WildChina guide and chauffeur will escort you to Gonggar Airport in your private vehicle and see you on your flight

Day 8
Lhasa, China

Hotel: Local 2-star Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 6

Shigatse - Sagya Monastery – Shegar

- Continue your journey west

- Visit Sagya Monastery, the chief seat of Sagya Tibetan Buddhism

- Transfer to Shegar



DAY 7

Shegar - Everest Base Camp – Shegar

- Early in the morning, drive to Rongbuk Monastery and enjoy a panoramic view of the Himalayas- Hike to the Everest Base Camp, directly below the shadow of the legendary Mount Everest- After your hike, rest during your drive back to Shegar (New Tingri)

(Special excursion day with 7 hours driving)(For the more adventurous, stay overnight at Rongbuk Monastery guesthouse)



DAY 8

Shegar – Shigatse - Lhasa

- Make your way back to Lhasa where your WildChina Guide will help you catch your departure flight.

Product Terms & Conditions

A deposit of USD 500/person is required to secure your client's customized reservation. Full trip payments should be made 60 days prior to departure. In the event that the departure date is within this 60-day window, full payment will be due at booking. Once full payment has been received, your client's trip tour guides will be confirmed and guide biographic information will be forwarded. Payments can be made by USD Denominated Check, Wire Transfer, or Credit Card.

In the case of trip cancellation, please refer to the schedule below:

  1. 60 days or more prior to trip departure - Loss of deposit
  2. Between 45 - 60 days prior to trip departure - 30% of total tour price will be forfeited
  3. Between 20 - 45 days prior to trip departure - 50% of total tour price will be forfeited
  4. Less than 20 days prior to trip departure - no refund

No refund will be made if clients voluntarily leave a trip for any reason after the trip has begun. Refunds will be at the discretion of WildChina if clients are involuntarily forced to leave a trip for any reason. WildChina reserves the right to cancel any trip departure before it is guaranteed to run. A trip is guaranteed to run once it has one fully paid traveler, unless minimum numbers state otherwise. WildChina reserves the right to cancel any trip, including a guaranteed trip, prior to departure due to reasons outside its control (i.e. natural disasters or political instability). In such a case, WildChina will refund the trip price. Under extraordinary circumstances caused by civil unrest, terrorism, natural disaster or other force majeure, either party may cancel the trip. If such cases occur 45 days or more before trip departure, WildChina will refund clients fully less the deposit. If such cases occur within 45 days of departure, WildChina will refund clients fully less the deposit and any expenses incurred to date that are directly related to preparation of such trip. Such expenses may include preview trips conducted specifically for the above-mentioned trip.
