Upon arrival in New Orleans, collect your rental car and start your road trip en route to the majestic Nottoway Plantation. Your stay here includes a guided tour led by the curator of the River Road African-American Museum in nearby Baton Rouge. This tour highlights the contributions of African Americans who lived and worked on plantations along the Mississippi River including Nottoway, in addition to explaining just how life in rural Louisiana has evolved over the past 200+ years. Enjoy the evening at leisure; if you like, you may choose to have dinner at the plantation, taking in the sounds of the country and the bright stars of the bayou.

Enjoy a leisurely morning to acclimate to the slower pace of plantation life. Around midday, make your way to the charming home of a local resident to enjoy a private and elegant lunch, which will initiate you into the customs, tastes, and cuisine of Louisiana's elite. Based on availability and interest, your meal can be arranged with a well-known chef, an illustrious author or a colorful local politician. Following lunch, travel south to Houmas House Plantation and Gardens for a private tour of the grounds and home of this recently renovated antebellum mansion, the Crown Jewel of Louisiana's River Road. Explore the wine cellars, marvel at the antique furnishings and sip a mint julep on the lawn before savoring a very special tasting menu and wine pairing dinner outside on the lawn or in a private dining room of the mansion. After dinner, make your way back to Nottoway Plantation for a good night's rest.

Your lesson is completely tailored to your dietary and culinary preferences, and focused on the iconic dishes that make this region so unique. There is plenty of time to indulge in the fruits of your labor among other Cajun delicacies and French wines. Later, drive onward to nearby Lafayette.

After breakfast, you may choose to visit the rural life exhibition at Vermilionville. This enchanting village is a re-creation of rural Bayou life, complete with artisans making classic dishes and crafts. Then continue your drive south to New Orleans, with a pit stop at secretive Avery Island, the quaint island home of the world-famous Tabasco Sauce. Tours are available which include the manufacturing process and, of course, tastings. In Houma, home of the Cajun French, embark on a scenic swamp boat ride with a born-and-bred Cajun musician and boater, who will provide both folklore and a soundtrack of accordion and washboards as you wind your way through the swamp. After your time on the water concludes, you'll enjoy a crawfish boil with all the customary fixings. Following your swamp feast, make your way to the Big Easy.

After breakfast today, meet a renowned culinary author and cocktail historian for a food and drink tour of the city, visiting some of the city's top culinary and cocktail establishments - from high-end restaurants to traditional groceries and pubs, snacking on muffulettas, Gulf Coast oysters, beignets, po'boys, Sazeracs, gin fizzes and much more. Then, relax with your guide and locals in the private courtyard of one of the French Quarter's stately homes. A contract is entered into once your travel agent or East India Travel Company, Inc. (DBA Cox & Kings) receives your deposit and we accept and confirm the booking. Please note that travel arrangements are not confirmed until stated so in writing by Cox & Kings. Payment of any monies constitutes acceptance and understanding of Cox & Kings’ Terms & Conditions as laid out below, as listed on our website and in our pre travel documentation.
For most trips, a per person deposit of 25% of the program price is required to secure the arrangements, and will be your only obligation until 90 days prior to your departure date. For trips with other deposit and cancelation requirements, your travel specialist will inform you at time of booking. The balance of the cost must be paid 90 days before you travel. Payment should be made to Cox & Kings in Los Angeles, California. If the final balance is not received on time, Cox & Kings reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled by you and to levy cancellation charges. If you book your travel 90 days or prior to departure, the full amount of your trip must be paid in order to confirm the booking.
A fee of $150 per alteration will be charged for any amendments to your travel arrangements once your booking has been confirmed. If you request any changes in services or accommodation, once commencement of travel, Cox & Kings will do all possible to accommodate your request, however, any costs incurred due to such amendments, you will be liable for any cancellation/retention charges that may be levied for the previously booked service and for any costs incurred to secure revised arrangements.
Should you wish to cancel your travel arrangements, you must notify Cox & Kings in writing. Please note that deposits are-refundable minus a per person administrative fee of $400 if the cancellation is received more than 91 days prior to departure. Please state the reason for cancellation as you may be covered by your insurance policy. For notification received within 90 days of departure, the following cancellation charges are applicable:

We cannot give any allowance or refund for meals, rooms, excursions, etc. that have not been consumed or utilized, when these services have been included in the price of the program. No refund can be made on lost, mislaid or destroyed travel tickets. Certain programs and holiday departure dates may have higher penalties for cancellation, your travel specialist will advise at time of booking. Any air tickets issued at any time are subject to the terms of the airline.
