Start your day-trip visiting Avignon. Located at the confluence of the Rhône and Durance rivers, Avignon is well known for its ramparts, its famous Pont Saint-Bénezet and the Pope’s Palace. You can visit 25 of the Palace’s rooms, including the ceremonial rooms, chapels, cloister and private papal apartments with priceless frescoes. Enjoy a walk around Avignon. On this walk you will encounter the main landmarks of the city and the historic core of Avignon, which has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list by the Convention of Berlin (1995). One of France's Monuments Historiques chief architects has called it the "Acropolis of Avignon". Enjoy a lunch at leisure.
In the afternoon, visit of Marseille, the largest and most populous commune in France after Paris and is the centre of the third largest metropolitan area in France. The guide will drive you to the famous Notre Dame de la Garde, « Our Good Mother » as the Marseillais call her with affection; the 19th century impressive church dominates the city and the view from the churchyard is just astonishing. Marseille is busy renovating its majestic Second Empire buildings, adding interesting modern architecture and buzzing with the energy of a new Golden Age. You will pass the Corniche where you will see the most beautiful houses of Marseille, towards the Palais Longchamp, originally the water tower of the town, a very beautiful example of 19th century architecture; the Park Longchamp is today the largest park of central Marseille.
