Description

You will be picked-up by private limousine and English speaking guide from your booked hotel or your ship.

The first stop will be at

KREMS: At the exit of the Wachau, one of the most beautiful parts of the Danube Valley, lies the charming double-town Krems-Stein. Krems at the river Danube is worth a visit during any season! Dive into the region at the Nibelungen stream: The Wachau valley - world cultural heritage of the UNESCO

There are not many cities in Austria which can offer such a great variety in cultural, historical or culinary offers as the attractive "double town" of Krems-Stein. Located in the eastern-most part of the Wachau valley, the town - more than 1000 years old - impresses its visitors with historical buildings in the old town centre, having been announced "world heritage" by the UNESCO in 2000.

Departure from Krems by boat to Dürnstein (in summer season)

The name Dürnstein - in earlier times "Tirnstein" - originates from the rocky area, "dem dürren Stein", where the settlement was founded. Dürnstein has kept its historic character and is regarded as the most romantic place in the Wachau. The villages Oberloiben, Unterloiben and Rothenhof, situated east of Dürnstein - along the road to Krems - have been part of the town since 1971.

During the Middle Ages Dürnstein was an ideal location. The steep rock riverbanks gave protection agains floods and left enough space for settlement and fortification. In this narrow part of the valley, road and river can be closed off easily. This was a great importance of the local ruler. The dukes of Babenberg as liege-lords granted Dürnstein and other parts of the Wachau to the Kuenring dynasty, descendants of Bavarian and Saxon nobility.

Departure from Dürnstein to Melk

Lunch at Melk abbey restaurant & Visit of Melk Abbey

In 996 the name "Ostarrichi" (Austria) was mentioned for the first time in a document. In the more than 1000 years that have passed since then, in which little Ostarrichi devoloped first into a huge empire and finally into our current-day Austria, Melk has always been an important cultural and spiritual center of this country.

Departure from Melk to Langenlois wine area for visit and wine tasting

Wine world Loisium - Langenlois

Good soil makes every adventure pleasurable. The rythum of wine is present in Langenlois. Enjoy the wonderful places in Langenlois in the Kamp valley. Lower Austria has around 30.000 ha of vineyard area and is therefore the biggest wine region in Austria. In 8 different wine-growing areas you find rich wine origins and a high potential of wines and wine curiosities.

The World of Wine is a 900-year-old labyrinth through the old wine cellars of the wine town Langenlois which has been staged in a traditional, mystical way for visitors. Accompanied by many stories, it invites visitors to take an exceptional tour dedicated to the subject of wine. Explore 15 stations of this tour through the Loisium World of Wine in your very own way. Be transported to a different world for an hour and a half - an undergrand world of wine.

No boat trip at the Danube during winter months.

My husband and I had a jam-packed itinerary on our 37 day European adventure; Panorama Tours & Travel provided exceptional service! Every arrival/transfer (to and from airport and trains) was right on time: friendly drivers went out of their way to acclimate us to our surroundings and help schlep luggage. The private tours and guides were phenomenal: Dr. Christine Horvath conveyed a wealth of knowledge about Vienna, the Wachau Danube Valley, Krems-Durnstein, the Abbey Melk, etc. Mag. Martina Gyuroka was charming on our 1/2 day walking tour in Salzburg. And our favorite guide of all was Lisa, who took us an an all day adventure to Halstatt , thru stunningly beautiful mountain villages in the "Salzkammergut"-Lake District. Lisa greeted us at our hotel the second day wearing a dirndl; such a sweet gesture after we had been chatting earlier about family and local traditions, and also directed me to a shop in Salzburg where I purchased the best-locoing raincoat ever-the "Derbe"!
