Remote Lands, Inc

Lhasa, Tibet , China To Lhasa, Tibet , China

Valid for Departures Now Through: 31 Mar 2020

Day 1
Lhasa, Tibet , China
Tibet, China
The St. Regis Lhasa Resort Dinner

This 5-day Tibet itinerary begins with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Potala Palace. A knowledgeable guide will show you through this incredible building, once the home of the Dalai Lama. Next, you’ll visit Sera Monastery, famous for its lively monk debates, where different aspects of Buddhist philosophy are discussed. Five-thousand monks live in this 15th-century building, which is one of three major “Gelupka” universities. After that, you’ll take a leisurely walking tour of Barkhor Square where you can bargain for keepsakes such as prayer flags or locally made jewellery. We recommend staying at the luxurious St Regis hotel while you’re in Lhasa.

Day 2
Lhasa, Tibet , China
The St. Regis Lhasa Resort Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today you’ll make a pilgrimage to Tibet’s holiest monastery, Jokhang Temple. Here, you’ll have the chance to join other pilgrims circumambulating the temple and be blessed by one of the senior monks. Next, exercise your artistic talents with a thangka silk painting lesson. These brightly-colored artworks are painted by monks, depicting various Buddhist scenes and deities. After that, enjoy a half-day hike at Sera Monastery to discover remote meditation caves. Return to your luxury Lhasa hotel for a world-class meal, or find a cozy little restaurant in Lhasa’s old district before turning in for the night.

Day 3
Zêtang, China
Tsetang Hotel Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After a hearty breakfast in your hotel, you’ll travel to Tsetang - around 115 miles from Lhasa. Tsetang is one of Tibet’s largest cities and there’s a lot of ground to cover, so you’ll begin with a visit to Yungbulakang Palace, dating back to the 2nd century AD and said to be Tibet’s first building. After that, pay a visit to the ancient Tadruk Monastery where you’ll see remnants of intricate Buddhist artwork and ornate temple architecture. Tonight, check into Tsetang Hotel for the evening.

Day 4
Lhasa, Tibet , China
The St. Regis Lhasa Resort Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today you’ll drive back to Lhasa, with a visit to Samye Monastery along the way. Samye was the first monastery ever built in Tibet, and its impressive architecture reflects Buddhist scriptures, with different buildings symbolizing different places in religious lore. After exploring this fascinating complex, you’ll head to Chimpu Mountain caves and hike to a mountaintop nunnery for spectacular views. In the afternoon, take a trip to Lhasa Brewery, the highest brewery in the world. Return to your hotel in Lhasa tonight - the St Regis is a fantastic luxury option.

Day 5
Lhasa, Tibet , China
The St. Regis Lhasa Resort Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Your first stop today is the Lhasa carpet factory, where you can find traditionally-woven rugs bearing authentic Tibetan patterns made from handspun highland wool. Next, you’ll visit the 15th-century Drepung Monastery, one of the largest monasteries in the world. Here, you can taste traditional yak butter tea and witness monks in chanting meditation. After that, you’ll drive along a scenic mountain road a few hours out of Lhasa to see Yamdrok Tso Lake, a location so stunning it’s considered sacred. Here you can follow one of the hiking trails and enjoy a picnic with far-reaching views over jagged mountains and snow-capped peaks. In the evening you’ll return to your hotel in Lhasa for the final night of your journey.

The Remote Lands Guides were excellent. The cars used for transportation were roomy and clean. The hotels were 5 star and their attention to detail was over the top. There was only perfection from the people we met and it was also comforting to know that our trip was being carefully monitored by Remote Lands supervisors every step of the way. We would recommend Remote Lands to anyone needing exceptional service in Asia.

We had 4 different guides (one in each city) and they were all wonderful. We appreciated that they let us be flexible and make game time decisions. We skipped a lot of the "touristy" sites and felt we had a more authentic experience.

Excellent. Guides at each location were friendly, personable and knowledgeable. Want to share a special thank you to Nadia Thakul (Bangkok) & Mr. Buntheun (Siem Reap). After missing my connecting flight from Shanghai to Siem Reap, I called Mr. Buntheun to let him know I was not able tomake it to Siem Reap as planned and for him to notify the hotel. I was flying instead to Phnom Phen and would notify him later of my flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival in Phnom Phen as I was filling out my visa on arrival form, a Remote Land guide greeted me and told me that Mr. Buntheun had notified the Bangkok office of my predicament and sent him to greet me. As you can imagine being in a foreign land in an unplanned location he was a sight for sore eyes. He got me in contact with Nadia who then took care of the rest of the accommodations (hotel, transportation to/from airport and flight from Phnom Phen to Siem Reap the next day). Assistance provided by Remote Lands got us to Siem Reap on time.
