Day 1
Bali, Indonesia

Your 11-day luxury journey begins in the Island of the Gods: Bali. Bali has long been an idyllic getaway due to its diverse and beautiful scenery, and the wealth of cultural experiences it offers. Your first activity on this beautiful island is mahout training - you’ll be taught the basics of elephant handling, then trek on elephant-back through scenic jungle. Next, you’ll head to Telaga Waja River, where you’ll go white-water rafting through class III and IV rapids on a journey downriver that’ll take you past waterfalls, through pristine rainforests and to still pools where you can swim. In the afternoon, you’ll head to a temple amid terraced rice fields and receive a monk’s private blessing for luck and longevity. Stay overnight in Bali tonight - we recommend the luxurious COMO Shambala Estate located in the forests of Ubud.

Day 2

You’ll start your day today with a lesson in batik-making. Traditional batik patterns are rooted in Hindu mythology and you’ll learn both the process of this dyeing technique, and the meaning behind it. Today you’ll also visit ARMA contemporary art museum, where you can view the permanent collections of some of the best artists in Indonesia in traditional bale style buildings.  To conclude the day’s activities, enjoy a bespoke shopping trip, picking up specialist items, handicrafts, Indonesian art or luxury goods - anything you like! Return to your luxury Bali hotel tonight.

Day 3

Today you’ll learn about two important parts of local culture - Balinese dance and the gamelan. You’ll meet with young students of Indonesian dance, learning about the different strains and their historical significance, and be treated to a private performance. Next, you’ll visit The Green School - an amazing jungle school on the Ayung River where students are educated in environmentally-sustainable practices. The school has large open-air bamboo pavilions as classrooms and is powered by solar energy, the centerpiece of this remarkable institution is a 200-foot-long bamboo stilt structure called the “Heart of the School.” In the evening, you’ll enjoy sunset on horseback with a horse-ride along the beach. Stay overnight in your Bali hotel tonight.  

Day 4
Private Schooner Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The Komodo dragon is a formidable, awe-inspiring creature that lives in only three places in the world. Today, you’ll visit two of those locations - Rinca and Komodo Islands - traveling by private schooner so you can enjoy Indonesia’s beautiful coastline in luxury. You’ll take a leisurely 30- to 60-minute hike on Rinca Island’s trails - you may be the only people on the island. The dragons are accustomed to human visitors, so expect to see them unperturbed by your presence. Tonight, you’ll sleep in your fully-equipped cabin aboard the schooner.

Day 5
Private Schooner Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today, you’ll cruise around Komodo National Park where you’ll discover private bays and gorgeous hidden beaches. The waters here are clean and clear and perfect for diving or snorkeling. There are kayaks at your disposal, so you also have the option of paddling to remote beaches and exploring the park and its wildlife on foot. You can be as active or as idle as you like - the schooner provides you with your own private crew, including a chef, so you’re free to charter your boat from one idyllic island to the next. You’ll spend another night aboard the schooner tonight.

Day 6
Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Today you’ll travel to the island of Java, where you’ll enjoy a spectacular sunrise at the 6th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple, Borobudur. This UNESCO World Heritage site comprises a large stone monument covered in stupas and dawn here is an unforgettable site. You’ll next head to the Javanese Cultural Museum to learn about the unique history of the world’s most-populous island, then head to the ancient sultanate of Solo, also known as Surakarta. Here, in the ‘sister city’ of Yogyakarta, you’ll visit a local primary school for an insightful chat with its students. Stay the night in Yogyakarta - we recommend the Amanjiwo, which lies within view of the stupas of Borobudur.

Day 7

The first stop on your itinerary today is Kraton Palace, an 18th-century structure inside an old walled city. As the seat of the royal court and the current sultan it is the primary palace of Yogyakarta. Next, visit Mesjid Agung Demak, one of Indonesia’s oldest mosques, and marvel at how it has remained largely unchanged since it was first build. In the afternoon you’ll head to the 9th-century Hindu temple, Prambanan, where you’ll enjoy the sun setting behind its intricate stone spires and be treated to a performance of Ramayana. This traditional Javanese ballet depicts the four scenes of the Hindu legend of Ramayana, featuring elaborate costumes and dazzling sets. Stay overnight in your luxury Yogyakarta hotel.  

Day 8

Java is famous for its coffee and what better way to start the morning than with a hike to  MesaStila coffee plantation, located in a tranquil, serene setting atop a hill with fantastic views. Next, you’ll visit Ambarawa Railway Museum, where you’ll see beautifully preserved steam locomotives and learn about this part of Java in its Dutch colonial context.  In the afternoon you’ll visit the Tembi Cultural House and craft village where you can get a glimpse of rural life only a 20-minute drive from Yogyakarta. Visit one of Yogyakarta’s traditional markets, and support the local vendors by purchasing some unique handicrafts to take back home as souvenirs. Spend another night in your Yogyakarta hotel.

Day 9
Bali, Indonesia

You’ll head back to Bali today, where you’ll take a scenic drive to Mount Batur volcano and hike through the surrounding countryside before enjoying a picnic lunch. Batur features a volcanic peak inside a larger caldera, and for unsurpassed views of this natural phenomenon, you’ll take to the skies in a private helicopter tour. From the skies to the surf, you’ll make your way to the beach afterwards, where you can spend the afternoon swimming, strolling or just enjoying the sunset. Tonight, check into your luxury Bali resort for the night - the Amankila is an excellent option.

Day 10

The waters of the Balinese coastline are abundant with coral reefs and wrecks, and today you’ll have the chance to explore them with the help of your own private boat charter. Sail to Nusa Lembongan on the southeast coast of Bali to spot sunfish, manta rays and sea turtles, or cruise to Tulamben Bay where the sunken US Liberty serves as one of the area’s best dive sites. Here, you can see mola mola, barracuda and, if you’re lucky, a whale shark. There are also plenty of great sites for snorkeling - your experienced boat crew will know where to take you. Return to your Bali hotel tonight.

Day 11

This morning, you’ll start the day with a refreshing ride through verdant green rice paddies, visiting rural communities,and seeing a side of Balinese life most tourists never get to see. Visit a local market to pick up fresh fruit and vegetables, then partake in a village cooking experience where you’ll use local produce and traditional cooking methods to create a truly authentic Balinese meal. After a full day of cultural exchange, return to your hotel for the last night of your journey.
