In 1991 Drottningholm was included on UNESCO's World Heritage list of sites of outstanding universal value to humanity. The World Heritage Committee's citation reads:

"Drottningholm Palace - is the best preserved example of a royal castle built in the 1700’s in Sweden and is representative of all European architecture of that time, built with Versailles as a model and source of inspiration."

The royal family moved into Drottningholm Palace in 1981. Today the castle remains the primary residence of the King and Queen. The rooms in the castle's southern section are reserved for the royal couple.

The Royal Palace in central Stockholm is H. M. the King's official residence and constitutes and essential element of the monarchy's official role. The palace is a daily place of work for the King and Queen and for the offices that make up the Royal Court.

The palace was built in the Baroque style by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger and is formed as a Roman palace. The palace has over 600 rooms on seven floors with state rooms facing the city and smaller living areas facing the inner courtyard.

The best time to spend vacation in Turku is during the Yuletide holiday. Turku is not called the official Christmas City of Finland for nothing. The city celebrates the Yuletide season by holding a number of events and festivities, which are of course, open to all tourists. Turku even holds a yearly official Christmas Declaration ceremony each Christmas eve at the Old Great Square

On this tour we will visit: Turku Cathedral, The Handicrafts Museum and Turku Castle.

great walking tour! We loved our guide and learned quite a bit. She was flexible and ended switching gears a bit to talk to us about the Beer Culture in Copenhagen. I never hesitate to trust Cassandra and her suggestions.
