Kremlin and Cathedrals tour:

Originally every Russian town would have held a Kremlin, or fortress in Russian, but today the word is synonymous with the Moscow Kremlin, the official residence of the Russian President, and home to the Russian Orthodox Church. This tour will take you on a guided visit to the three cathedrals of Cathedral Square; the Dormition Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Annunciation, and the Cathedral of the Archangel. You’ll see the Ivan the Great Bell Tower with its gold onion-domed roof, which was once the tallest building in Moscow. The tour ends with the Tsar Bell and the Tsar Cannon, neither of which have been used, but which are displayed as a testament to their size and design.

• Red square and St. Basil’s Cathedral photo stop

These are the most famous sites that come to mind when you hear – Russia.

Visit to GUM ( State Department Store on the Red Square):

Directly opposite the Mausoleum, on the eastern side of the square, lies the building which houses Russia's most famous shopping mall - the State Department Store, GUM. Since the fall of communism, several other shopping centers and hypermarkets have sprung up to rival it in prestige, but GUM retains its status as a consumer Mecca for visitors to Moscow. In the Soviet Union, the top floor was home to Section 100, a secret clothing store only open to the highest echelons of the party. Nowadays the rows of exclusive boutiques are accessible to anyone with a platinum card. That said, the building itself is glorious, and there are still a few more interesting relics of a bygone era on the higher floors that make it well worth exploring.

• Time for lunch on your own

• Novodevichiy Convent

The Novodevichy (or New Maiden) Convent is one of the most beautiful monasteries in Russia. Founded by Tsar Vasily III in 1524, the Convent marked winning the city of Smolensk back from the Lithuanians in 1514. The new convent was consecrated in honor of the Mother of God Hodigidria which according to a legend was painted by St. Luke himself.

The Convent served as a retirement home for the women of the royal and noble families. The "retirement" was either voluntary or forced, and having taken the veil the women stayed at the Convent for the rest of their lives. Perhaps the most famous dwellers of the Novodevichy Convent were Tsarina Godunova, widow of Tsar Fedor; Peter the Great's older sister Sophia and his first wife Evdokia.

Moscow Metro Stations Tour:

The Metro began operating in Moscow in 1935 with a single 11 km line connecting just thirteen stations, but it has since grown into the world’s fourth busiest transit system, spanning more than 300 kilometers and offering 188 stops along the way.

The Moscow Metro was one of the USSR’s most extravagant architectural projects, with stations constructed as luxurious “palaces for the people”. Built under the command of Stalin, the iron-fisted leader ordered the metro’s artists and architects to design a structure that embodied svet (radiance or brilliance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future).
