Your luxury tour of Machu Picchu will combine the highlights of Incan history and colorful local culture with outdoor adventures set amidst the majestic Andes. After your international arrival into Lima, head via domestic flight to the Sacred Valley, a beautiful landscape dotted with important Incan sites, where options for hiking, biking, and horseback riding abound. Then, set out for the lush jungle surrounding Machu Picchu. You will have the option to hike into the historic citadel through the same entrance used by the Incans, or ride aboard the luxurious Hiram Bingham train. After exploring the site with your private guide, you will continue to the city of Cusco. There, experience the day-to-day rhythms of traditional Andean life as you explore the San Pedro market with a local chef and wander through the winding streets of Cusco, where impressive Incan masonry still predominates.

Itinerary

Day 1
Lima, Peru

Hotel: Wyndham Costa del Sol Hotel

You will arrive in Lima after an overnight flight from the US; here, your personal host will greet you and offer check-in assistance at the Wyndham Costa del Sol Hotel, conveniently located across the street from the airport.

Day 2
Sacred Valley, Peru

Hotel: Sol y Luna
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

In the morning, you'll take a flight to Cusco where your personal host will be waiting for you. Take a private transfer to the Sacred Valley where your ultraluxe journey into the ancient Incan Empire begins. During your time in the Sacred Valley, you will stay in the tranquil Sol y Luna lodge. On the way to your lodge, stop to have lunch in the private salon of an exclusive hacienda with spectacular views of the area.

After lunch, enjoy horseback riding on Peruvian Paso horses with your personal guide through this spectacular region. Alternatively, enjoy a private meditation ceremony performed by a Paco (Andean Shaman) before sunset especially for your party. Later, relax in the comfort of your lodge in the evening.

Day 3
Sacred Valley, Peru

The next day, you will be taken by private transfer to the village of Cruzpata where you will embark on an exciting mountain biking excursion to the terraced ruins of Moray. As you bike across the rolling hills of the valley, you will witness daily rituals of Peruvian rural life, such as local families working their corn fields. Stop at a secluded spot facing the impressive Andes for a gourmet picnic lunch before you reach the ruins of Moray. Once there, enjoy a private visit with your expert local guide.

From Moray, you will be taken by private transfer to Maras – a pre-Incan site which has continuously produced salt for centuries. It is divided into over 3,000 salt pools, harvested today by local families. Following the salt terraces, you will be taken into the village of Maras to an exclusive house where you can enjoy a private pisco tasting – a famous local brandy. You will then be transferred back to your lodge to rest before visiting one of the highlights of any luxury Peru tour: the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu.

Day 4
Machu Picchu, Peru

Experience an awe-inspiring train ride along the towering Andes and the Quechua-speaking villages of the Sacred Valley as you travel to Machu Picchu. You will either leave the train at kilometer 104 and hike the last portion of the Inca Trail with your personal guide (passing through the Gate of the Sun) or take the luxurious Hiram Bingham train all the way to Machu Picchu. Discover the spectacular ruins and check-in to the luxurious Inkaterra Machu Picchu Hotel, nestled between steep mountain walls of lush Andean greenery in the valley below the site of Machu Picchu. Private guided tour of the Machu Picchu ruins in the afternoon and gourmet meals at your hotel in the evening.

Day 5
Machu Picchu, Peru

Rise early to catch the sunrise over the ruins and enjoy further hiking to the Machu Picchu Mountain or to the Gate of the Sun. After lunch, enjoy a private shaman meditation ceremony in the gardens of Sanctuary Lodge.

Day 6
Cusco, Peru

Your private Peru tour continues with a luxury train back to the Sacred Valley where you will be escorted to Cusco, the city of the “Children of the Sun”. Along the way, stop at traditional Peruvian restaurant Wayra in Urubamba for an al fresco meal and a Paso Horse show. Before reaching Cusco, visit the Chinchero Weaving Center to meet the Callanaupa family and learn about Peruvian weaving traditions.

In Cusco, you can choose between three luxury hotels: Palacio Nazarenas, a former palace and convent dating back to the 16th century; Monasterio Hotel, a monastery that was originally built in 1592 by descendants of the Spanish Conquistadores; or La Casona, a 16th century manor house, restored as an 11-suite luxury hotel.

Day 7
Cusco, Peru

The following day, enjoy breakfast with a Peruvian scholar as he explains the rich history of the Incas, and later visit the famed Cusco Central Market. Afterwards, depart on a private guided tour of the main attractions of Cusco including the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the Company of Jesus Church, La Merced Church, and the Museum of Religious Art located in the Archbishop’s palace. You’ll be treated to a private music demonstration in the beautiful chapel of the Monasterio Hotel and learn about the many different string, wind, and percussion instruments from various Peruvian civilizations dating back to pre-Incan times. In the evening, enjoy Cusco’s dynamic nightlife – the city is home to a choice of excellent restaurants and bars.

Day 8
Cusco, Peru

Following breakfast, your expert guide will take you to the outskirts of Cusco where you will explore 2 churches constructed in the 17th century by the Jesuit faith. Here you will have exclusive access to the choir level and bell tour, which will only be open for Blue Parallel guests. Afterwards, return to Cusco and stop in a tile-making town where you can see where local families have been creating tiles for the beautiful homes of Cusco, a tradition that dates back hundreds of years. Enjoy lunch in Cusco before taking the afternoon flight to Lima. Once there, relax and freshen up before your international departure with a day-check at the Wyndham Costa del Sol Hotel.
