San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill town in Tuscany. It is mainly famous for its medieval architecture, especially its towers, which may be seen from several miles outside the town. While in other cities, such as Bologna or Florence, most or all of their towers have been brought down due to wars, catastrophes, or urban renewal, San Gimignano has managed to conserve fourteen towers of varying height which have become its international symbol.
Colle di Val d'Elsa is located in the heart of Tuscany, in a strategic position, near the cities of Siena, Florence and Volterra, on the route of the Via Francigena, the medieval highway of great pilgrimages from northern Europe to Rome.
The town was originally developed in three autonomous villages, different in structures and planimetric configuration: the village of Santa Caterina, Castle Piticciano and the Plan.
Colle di Val d’Elsa is famous for the glass production first and then for the crystal production. In the nineteenth century , Colle di Val d'Elsa was already called "the Bohemia of Italy", and now has become the true "City of Crystal" with 15% of world production, and over 95% of the Italian one.
During you tour, you will enjoy your lunch in a typical Italian Restaurant.
After the tour your driver will escort you back to the Port.
