Cetaceans Sanctuary Experience
You will meet your marine biologist at ship dock or at tender mooring; she will wait for you handling the Onirikos arrival board. She will introduce you to your professional English-speaking captain. They will escort you to the Cetaceans Sanctuary in order to enjoy a unique experience.
In the Cetaceans Sanctuary area is estimated the presence of a thousand whales, bottlenose and common dolphins, sperm whales, pilot whales and zifi, as well as occasional rorquals that in these waters find the necessary conditions both for the provision of food and for the breeding. Special chemical and physical features induced by the morphology and the water movement make the stretch of sea between Sardinia, Tuscany, Liguria, Monaco and France one of the richest areas of life in the Mediterranean.
For this reason, since the Eighties, many Research Institutions and Environmental Organizations have begun to convince the States to create the First International Protected Area in the Mediterranean for the protection of the marine environment, established in 1999. The reason why this area is the pelagic environments more productive and rich of life in the Mediterranean Sea is thanks to the peculiar geography of the coast.
The excursion in the heart of the "Cetaceans Sanctuary" is suitable for audiences of all ages and shoots for the research and the observation of 8 cetaceans species that inhabit the Sea. On board the boat your biologist will comment the sightings, providing you information and curiosity and gather important scientific data for research.
After the visit you will enjoy your lunch in a typical restaurant.
After lunch your driver will escort you back to the Port.
