Ancient and Christian Rome
You will meet your driver at ship dock or at tender mooring; he will wait for you handling the Onirikos arrival board.
You will begin your first journey in Rome with one of Ancient Rome's greatest engineering accomplishments, the Coliseum. After the visit of Coliseum the guide will escort you to S. Pietro in Vincoli. Here you will have the honor of viewing Michelangelo's Moses that was completed 1515. You would then change gears and head up the Via Sacra to enter the Roman Forum where you cover all the main basilicas and temples and of course Julius Caesar and his role in ancient Roman history. Then you will visit the Pantheon, once the temple of all Roman gods. You path near the Circus Maximus, the large ancient stadium where chariot races were held for the entertainment of Roman citizens and royalty alike.
After lunch you will reach the Basilica of St. John in Lateran, cathedral of Rome and of the world, famous for its baroque and medieval masterpieces kept intact inside of it. You will see the Holy Stairs. According to tradition, the staircases were part of the praetorium of Pilate in Jerusalem, hence were sanctified by the footsteps of Jesus Christ during his Passion. Driving along the Mura Latine, you will pass through the Porta di San Sebastiano to arrive on the Ancient Appian Way, ancient Rome's "Queen of Roads". Your guide will also include a visit to the Christian catacombs. Your journey will continue to St. Paul outside the Walls Basilica, the second largest basilica in Rome after St Peter’s Basilica. The catacomb of Domitilla with its 15 km of subterranean galleries is not only the largest catacomb of Rome, it also provides an extensive insight into all phases and phenomena of an Early-Christian necropolis.
After the visit your driver will escort you to the Port.
