Savona Orientation Tour
You will meet your guide at ship dock or at tender mooring; she will wait for you handling the Onirikos arrival board.
She will be glad to introduce you to your driver and they will guide you through a unique excursion in Savona.
In Riviera di Ponente (West Riviera), Savona Province goes from Varazze to Andora, 1500 square kilometres of coasts, valleys and mountains, where, in winter and summer, it is possible to live between the blue of the sea and the green of olive and pine trees. The landscape beauty of the coast and of the hinterland is enriched by the artistic and architectonic peculiarities that can be found in churches, street furniture, craft shops. Traces of history and prehistory can be found in the archaeological sites and in Karst caves that offer wonderful routes. The artistic craft has its great expressions in the productions of glass and ceramics that are based on ancient traditions. Savona is the home town of the two most important Popes during the Italian Renaissance: Pope Sistus IV who ordered the famous Sistine Chapel in Rome to be built and his nephew, Julius II, was Michelangelo' s patron. You will visit Via Pia in the Medieval heart of the town. This area is filled with the Palaces of rich merchants and the aristocracy. Inside the Cathedral there is the famous choir which was ordered by Julius II at the beginning of the 16th century. In the 19th century, the cloister connects the Cathedral to the Little Sistine Chapel which was built by Pope Sistus IV as a mausoleum for his parents. You will also visit the Pinacoteca Civica of Savona, that is an excellent Ligurian gallery of paintings on wood and splendid polyptychs, ceramic vases and wooden sculpture work, dating from the 14th Century to the current day.
After the tour your driver will escort you back to the Port.
