One of the most beautiful port towns in all of Greece, Nafplio is a collection of Venetian houses and classical mansions and the three fortresses of Palamidi, Akronafplia and the Bourtzi which is on a small island in the bay.
The city was the first capital of Greece after the war of Independence when the entire country was contained in the Peleponesse, the Turks controlling everything else. The castle of Palamidi lies on a high hill (216m. a.s.l.) to the east of Akronafplia in the town of Náfplio (no visit – view from the town beneath) We Proceed to the old town of Nafplion for walking. Old Nafplio is a timeless city. Streets that are barely if ever used by automobiles, shops, restaurants and cafes selling the same things they have been selling all century (with the exception of the tourist shops) and people who have a simple elegance. Nafplio is a sophisticated little city that will certainly remind you of a more romantic age than the one we are in now. Look for the Church of Agios Spiridon where Greece's first Govorner Ioannis Kapodistrias was assassinated in 1831. The first shot missed him and is still lodged in the church wall. There are a number of important churches in Nafplion and even a mosque or two. One has been made into a movie theater. The old town is made up of Venetian buildings and neoclassical mansions.
After a 30 min ride we will reach The fortified city of Mycenae and the Mycenaean civilization to which it gave its name were first introduced to the world by Heinrich Schliemann’s excavations from 1874 onwards, which carried the history of Europe far back into the Bronze Age of the 2nd millennium BC. We visit the famous tholos tomb known as the “Treasury of Artreus” or the ‘Tomb of Agamemnon’; the Lion Gate; and the ruined Palace.
After Corinth we continue to Palivou Estate (25 min) inaugurating a new era, focused on discovering this experience, which will offer the visitor a completely different aspect in his tourist wandering. Thus, it invites you to its hospitable winery, in Ancient Nemea which lies the biggest vineyard of the Balkans, the “Bordeaux of Southeast Europe”, with vineyards of 25.000 stremmas. We will tour the winery and taste the wines
