This noble town founded in 1300 by Don Diego López de Haro is situated between two ranges of hills on both sides of the river Nervion. Lately, Bilbao has been a setting for numerous town planning and architectural transformations where factories and port installation are being renovated into spectacular urban projects. The restoration of Abandoibarra and the face washing of the facades of apartment building and of the most emblematic buildings in this town, have revealed a modern, bright Bilbao which combines perfectly the past, the present and the future.
The new Bilbao is of course best symbolized by the striking Guggenheim Museum, a work of Frank O. Gehry, a unique building, striking and representing the new generation of buildings to be built in Bilbao in the future. We will enjoy a guided tour of the Guggenheim Museum with our top local guide, Next enjoy views of the Calatrava Bridge and see a Norman Foster designed metro station. If you would like a Full day tour, we could also include sights such as the Fine Arts Museum, one of Spain’s best, the Basque Museum, and the Puente de Vizcaya, which is outside of town near the port. A UNESCO world heritage sight, it is the world's oldest operating transporter bridge and was built in 1893, designed by Alberto Palacio, one of Gustave Eiffel's disciples.
