Abercrombie & Kent United Kingdom & Ireland

Killarney, Ireland To Dublin, Ireland

Valid for Departures Now Through: 21 Aug 2018

Day 1
Killarney, Ireland
Killarney Park Hotel Dinner

Arrive Shannon – Transfer to Killarney

Arrive at Shannon airport, where a representative will meet guests on arrival. Guests will be transferred by private vehicle to the Killarney Park Hotel. The town of Killarney is known as the ‘home of beauty’; it is dramatically watched over by Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, the highest mountains in Ireland.

This evening, the group will transfer by private motorcoach to Muckross House and Traditional Farms, a magnificent Victorian estate that sits on its own promontory with sweeping views of the mountains. Enjoy a private tour of the house itself, and then visit the adjacent farms where the life and crafts of rural Ireland in earlier times is vividly portrayed. You will be hosted to a rustic ‘Welcome to Ireland’ dinner.

Day 2
Killarney, Ireland
Killarney Park Hotel Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The Killarney National Park

Leave Killarney this morning and drive the short distance to Kate Kearney’s Cottage that sits at the entrance to the Gap of Dunloe. This natural chasm through Macgillycuddy’s Reeks has long been traversed by local farmers and their horse-drawn jaunting carts. Travel by cart through the Gap enjoying the scenery as far as Lord Brandon’s Cottage where a barbeque lunch will be waiting.

This afternoon, return to Killarney by boat. Lord Brandon’s Cottage lies near the head of the Upper Lake of Killarney. Small open-top boats take guests across this lake and then down the river to the Middle (or Muckross) Lake, and thence across the large expanse of Lough Leane. The journey ends at Ross Castle, a fine medieval tower house that is just a short drive from the hotel.

This evening you will drive to Tralee to attend a performance at Siamsa Tire, the National Folk Theatre of Ireland. Here the company portrays life in rural Ireland in earlier times through the medium of mine, dance and traditional music. Dinner will be taken at the nearby Galleon Restaurant or one of the associated private dining rooms at the Brandon Hotel.

Day 3
Kenmare, Ireland
The Merrion Hotel Breakfast, Dinner

Kenmare and the Caha Mountains

This morning, take a tour to Kenmare, one of the prettiest small towns in this part of Ireland. Built around a triangle of streets, the pretty houses and stores of the town centre have been attractively decorated in a variety of colours. From the harbour, take a 2-hour ‘seafari’ trip by boat into Kenmare Bay. This bay is renowned for its seal population which is the largest in Ireland. The captain of the boat will try to ensure that you see some of the local fauna as you travel.

After lunch at a local restaurant, take a trip to the famous sub-tropical gardens of Ilnacullin. Drive over the spectacular Caha Mountains to Glengarriff, where you will board the small boat that takes you to Garinish Island where the gardens are located. Here you will have time to see the Italian-style garden where a wide variety of shrubs and plants have been cultivated in the warming influence of the Gulf Stream.

For those who wish to golf, tee times will be reserved today at the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club. One of the most beautifully located of all Irish golf clubs there are three golf courses on this site that offer a challenge to avid golfers.

Later this afternoon, travel to a local airport where you will board a privately-chartered plane to take you to Dublin. On arrival at Dublin airport, you will be transferred by coach to the Merrion Hotel where you will have time to freshen up after your journey. This evening you will enjoy a formal dinner in the ornate private dining rooms of the hotel.

Day 4
Dublin, Ireland
The Merrion Hotel Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning, take a city tour of Dublin in a most unusual vehicle; your 'Tour Bus' is over fifty years old and is a surviving amphibious truck that was first produced during World War II. Its official name was DUKW but it is affectionately referred to as the "Duck". During the tour, the captains will explain all about how the Vikings first settled in Dublin over 1000 years ago through to how Dublin has become a thriving, cosmopolitan European city. The highlight of the Tour is when the captain drives the Viking Splash Vehicle into the waters of the historic Grand Canal Basin.

At midday, reach the world-famous Guinness Storehouse where you will meet a member of the Guinness team. You will hear the story of this most famous of Irish exports as well as learning the art of pulling the perfect pint. Your introduction to Irish stout is followed by lunch served in one of the spectacular private rooms.

On the way back to the hotel, stop to visit Trinity College Library to see the Book of Kells, arguably the most famous medieval illuminated manuscript from Europe. See the beautiful colors on the vellum pages that have survived in pristine condition over the years. Walk back to the hotel from here; you may choose to have some more refreshment in one of the traditional Dublin pubs that cluster around Duke Street.

This evening your tour director will accompany you to Old Jameson’s Distillery; here you will first take a tour to see where barley was converted into a warming elixir in earlier times. After taking a tutored tasting of Irish whiskey, you will be privately entertained to dinner at the famous ‘Shindig’ evening. This spectacle offers a fine display of Irish music and dancing in traditional and modern styles. You will, of course, be expected to contribute to the dancing experience.

Wonderful Experience

By: Janice

Reviewed on: 27 Jul 2015

Abercrombie & Kent made arrangement for us to have drivers for July 5th, 6th and 7th and to return us to Dublin on the 8th. Although the drivers said they were not from A&K, they had been hired by them and took us to the preplanned sites and tours that we had agreed on. In addition, they (one on the 5th and 6th, another one on the 7th and 8th) included many sites and historical tours of the cities which we visited. Both were excellent drivers and expert guides! They were not, apparently, aware of the agreed to contract with A&K and we did have to pay for admission to all the tours that required fees, but we felt we got so much more from their experience that the cost was well worth what we paid.

Our family loved our trip to London! We were well taken care of by Peter and Vanessa. They were warm and welcoming to us in addition to being very knowledgable about everything London. Our Guardian Angel checked in on us several times and it was nice to have a contact in London in case an emergency arose. Thank you for helping to execute a wonderful, memorable trip!
