In 1928, 38 independent hoteliers came together to create The Leading Hotels of the World. We are incredibly passionate about our mission of empowering independent luxury hotels to stay independent. This is reflected in the ownership of the company, where 60 of our members are shareholders, and our company is still governed by a board of hoteliers. Since then, we have carefully curated distinctive hotels, resorts, inns, chalets, villas, and safari camps from the snow-capped Alps of Europe to the African veldt, to share them with adventurous souls who seek the remarkably uncommon. Nearly 90% of Leading Hotels are family-led, many of them for generations, and our portfolio is divided equally between city and resort destinations.
