Although this hotel, along with many on Waikiki Beach are lableled "touristy", this is exactly what we wanted. We had never been to Honolulu so we ARE the tourists! ;) In my opinion, RH was the BEST on Waikiki hands down. It's separated from the busy main road, it has a "resort feel", and it's perfect location. I would come back and I think the BEST way to experience RH is in the Mailini Tower (new tower). They offer free treats in the morning and wine/snacks in evening. A very nice touch. Also we ate at Azure and were PLEASANTLY surprised how good it was. One of the best meals I ate out in Hawaii. Our stay at the Royal Hawaiian was an amazing way to kick off ten days of exploring the Islands! The beach is picture perfect, and the views up and down the coast can't be beat. We stayed in the tower and loved having breakfast and cocktail hour in the lobby each day. The grounds are lovely and peaceful, and with the ocean as your swimming pool, it didn't matter to any of the 7 kids we were traveling with that the pool is small. It is easy to obtain a wristband to hit the pool at the next-door Sheraton. We loved being able to walk to great shopping and dining. The rooms were very nice, although not quite ready when we arrived. Or for a couple of hours past check-in, in fact. The delay afforded us time to enjoy a drink and have a light, if late, lunch on the patio. My son and I got up early for the Friday sunrise meditation and ocean dip lead by a lovely, spiritual soul who started our day out perfectly. We had an amazing, relaxing, rejuvenating experience at this lovely hotel.

Great hotel , wonderful amenities. Only shortcoming was small pool. This was partially mitigated by arrangement to use of good pool of hotel next door.

Sixteen years ago, we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian on our Honeymoon. For our second visit to Hawaii, we had to stay here again and were very happy we did. It is unique and charming and secures a great location on Waikiki beach. The unexpected fireworks show was great fun too!

Great hotel and ocean view. Waikiki is a bit too crowded for us since I've been here many many times.

We are regular guests at this hotel and feel that their standards have slipped steadily over the years. Failing to recognise you as a repeat/regular guest is insulting and not very welcoming and makes you question the need to return to their hotel? Food and beverage service is also lacking sadly. As a Virtuoso Guest we were supposed to feel extra welcome and this was simply not the case. There was no upgrade and no special attention in any way. I question the supposed benefit of this membership’as this hotel simply does not seem to value it!

One night wasn't enough

We were a group of 41 staying for one night before joining our cruise ship. The Royal Hawaiian came highly recommended and we enjoyed her amenities and the stunningly beautiful famous beach. We arrived in large shuttles and since the driveway is curvy and private, we were dropped off at a nearby landing. It's a good idea to arrange with the hotel in advance to help you transfer luggage if assistance is needed. We booked online surfing lessons & beach chair rentals in advance but you can easily do that once you arrive and enjoy your resort discount. The surf instructor, Matthew, was amazing...surfing while doing a backwards handstand? Crazy! A photographer went out with my girls and took pictures galore which they purchased on flash drives. I learned that it's all about the Instagram Worthy Photo - ha! So many restaurants & shopping nearby, the zoo, parks, etc within walking distance. One night wasn't enough. I can see why the RH has legacy guests returning year after year. Thanks!
