Sustainability
Our Commitment
Sustainability is embedded in the heart of the business philosophy and the development concept of Costa Navarino, the prime destination in the Mediterranean; not only as a fundamental design factor, but also as a guiding principle that determines our actions from the planning phase through to construction and operation.
The Romanos presents the distinct local architecture in harmony with the natural setting, protecting, and preserving the beauty and heritage of the area. During its construction, over 8500 olive and citrus trees have been preserved and transplanted, through the biggest olive tree transplanting program in Europe, aiming to preserve biodiversity and the Messinian landscape covered with centuries-old olive groves.
The over 1-mile-long sandy beach of The Romanos is an important nesting site for the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), an under-extinction sea spice. With the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece (Archelon), we record and protect the females arriving on the beach to dig their nests and lay their eggs and map their nests using GPS technology. Once a year, in August, guests can witness the hatching of newborn turtles discovering their way to the sea.
Since 2016, The Romanos receives the Travelife Gold award for its operations, for successfully meeting strict sustainability criteria in key issues relating to social, economic, and environmental impacts.
