Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii

Some of your toughest decisions at Fairmont Orchid, Hawai‘i will center around green sea turtles and oceanfront cabanas. What to do first – meet the native sea creatures as they bask on the beach, or indulge in a massage in a thatched-roof hale? Make time for it all: Visit the pool deck on Friday evenings for stargazing with a local astronomer, paddle the waters in an outrigger canoe, hike through a petroglyph field, or lounge on a sugar-sand beach. In the evening, listen to local musicians as the sun sets while you dine at the award-winning Brown's Beach House, located steps from the shore and serving locally grown specialties.

Hotel Tip

Fairmont Orchid’s Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors will lead you on a guided walk to ancient petroglyphs nearby.

Good, but not great!

Overall, this is a nice hotel on the big island. The setting is great. However, a bit far from food unless eating at the resorts restaurants. Breakfast was nice for a day or two but became a bit monotonous. Everybody was extremely nice throughout. Overall, a nice hotel but not one that blew me away or overly impressed in any facet.

We began our trip at the Fairmont Orchid, a beautiful hotel. We were greeted by a very friendly staff after a very long travel day and felt immediately relaxed! As we spent the most time at this hotel, we did work with the Concierge to plan a few day drives, per John Chaffin's suggestions. Dinner reservations had been set up by John Chaffin and the Concierge in advance. As we had a few nights open for dinner, I did ask for a few of Rachel's, the Concierge, "local" suggestions. She guided us in the right direction each time! Brown's, at the Fairmont, is a wonderful restaurant, and we were perfectly appointed for our first Hawaiian sunset. "Poolside" (we usually sat near the ocean) service was amazing. Once we met Ed, he remembered us each and every day, and as someone who was born and raised on the Big Island, he was a wealth of local history! Because of Paul Klein and Virtuoso, we had a beautiful ocean upgrade and breakfasts included. Both huge perks!

Lovely Hotel and grounds. Friendly Staff

Loved the hotel and location. Everyone was very friendly. Rooms fit us perfectly since we have two children 9 and 11 , finding a hotel that had two queens was not as easy as I would have thought on the Big Island. Grounds were amazing and the Brown restaurant has to be one of the top on the island. We loved the fun and sun pass that gave us access to snorkel gear and other fun beach toys. Getting a beach cabana was very key since not much shade on the beach. My parents would have melted otherwise. The transition to pool was easy and finding umbrellas was not an issue in the afternoons around the pool. Breakfast was very, very good so it was great that it was included (it is pricey). My daughter loved looking what the new pancakes would be each day. Lastly Hupuna state beach and the Mona Kea beach are a short drive north, Kings and Queens market is a short drive south if you need to shop more then whats at the shops at Mauna Lani.

The GOLD level is a must and if I return that's where I would stay. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Food options could be a little more expansive. Views were terrific. I do wish there was some adult only time in the pool.

Hotel was just OK

By: Wonderful Family Trip to Hawaii

Reviewed on: 15 Dec 2019

Grounds were nice. Hotel lacked attention to detail. It was OK. Not great and not bad. Service was just OK... Staff was not friendly but I cant say that they were unfriendly either. Only one pool which made it very crowded. Lots of rules that they make you follow as far as cabanas and times, etc... Food was OK but service was slow. Room was fairly nice but some things didn't work and needed up graded. Beach was small and very crowded...

Nice resort full of families and couples. Good location to explore the island from while still feeling like you're in hawaii. Only complaint was the lunch options. Menu was a little small for us and food wasn't amazing. But the dinner restaurants were good. Concierge was great with helping to plan some day trips.

We loved our stay at the Fairmont. While this resort books a lot of conventions, we loved it for our 10 year anniversary. Since everyone was at the convention, a lot of time we had the pool area to ourself in the morning and it was easy getting a table to dine. Property and rooms were very clean and have beautiful views of the sunset. Loved being able to snorkel in the ocean by the beach attached to the resort.

Our stay at the Fairmont Orchid was lovely. We were greeted with beautiful leis and there were plenty of staff members to help us with our bags. The hotel itself and the property was very beautiful and the staff was friendly. There were several different restaurants on property and we enjoyed the two that we went to. Both restaurants had live music which was a nice touch. We also appreciated how large the pool was and the fact that there was an adults only area. We only stayed two nights, as we were visiting several islands but the hotel had so much to offer that we would love to go back and spend more time there.
